I personally hate extra keys, so I will avoid keys if I can. The combo does not bother me at all.

I bought one from "Console Vault", and I'm very happy with it. It's a great place to store a firearm if you have to store one in your vehicle, and works just as well for those other times for iPods and other valuables.

I wish they made one for the glove box. If you cant fit a 19 in the center, then I wont be able to fit my 19 with x300u. or my 17.

How much medical do you think you could fit in there? You think you could fit a 2 person trauma kit?

Pretty sure that all the components would fit, not sure about the whole kit in it's entirety.

The 1911 might be a stretch. The 2005 - 2015 box was more rectangular and if side mounted at an angle would probably fit. The 2016 - 2017 box is more or less a cube so I have my doubts. Sold my Star (Spanish Mil. Copy) so I don't have one to try. I'm guessing it won't. Sorry! Maybe one of the other members or guests can help you out on that one.

A 19 will fit. I'm managed to squeeze an H&K P2000, which is a little bigger than a 19 into my Console Vault. You can't have the gun in the holster, but it will fit.

I installed a Lock'er Down console vault in both my 2017 Tacoma as well as my 2013 4Runner. Very well made. I got the round type key like used to open coke machines, etc. Got mine keyed alike. Only problem I ran into was on the Tacoma. After installation, once the safe was closed and locked, the Tacoma console top lid didn't want to latch completely. You could close it and then pull up and it would open. Fixed this by taking the latch off and putting two little washers under the two screws that hold it on effectively moving the latch down. Fixed the problem.

Thinking of doing the vending machine style lock as well. It's faster and easier to do in low light and I don't have to be a contortionist to unlock the dang thing. Whatever suits "you" is right for you. We're all different. Wouldn't be much fun if we were all the same. For me it's just one more mod on the road to making my truck my own.

Only thing about the key, is that you cannot leave the console vault unlocked. The key can only be removed when locked, and the console lid will not close fully with the key there. And, if you have a keyed ignition, you usually have to turn off the truck and remove the ignition key, in order to open the console vault if that key is on the same keyring.

With the combo lock, you can leave the console vault unlocked, and still close the console lid.

100% correct, but unless I'm going somewhere where carry isn't permitted it's always on my person. So for me a vending machine style lock fits my needs even though it may not fit someone elses. IMHO there's not much point in carrying if you don't actually carry. But I'm glad you brought that up because someone else may have overlooked those points.

Would a glock 17 fit in there? Just looking to store my 17 over night. Otherwise it's in the mount in the truck.

I believe it will fit. Somewhere on one of the threads one of members mounted a Serpa Kydex holster on the sidewall of the vault using the Serpa Quick Disconnect System. That system gave him enough space between the grip and the vault to easily grab the weapon and also eliminated any chance of the grip rubbing on the vault. It was as clean a mod as I have ever seen. REALLY nicely done. I was so impressed that I purchased the same system for my PPKS on ebay just the other day. If I could find the thread I would call it up again for all to see. It's that well done, very clean. Come to think of it it may have been a Glock that he mounted but I can't be sure. Trust me it's worth checking out.

I'm really just looking for something to protect against a smash and grab and it looks like the tuffy safe at the cheaper price point is the better deal. Is there anything I'm missing that makes this 100 bucks cheaper than the console vault or locker down console safes? I mean if someone steals your car and has time nothing is going to stop them from getting into either of the 3 so the quick smash and grab is all I'm looking to guard against.

Would anyone happen to the the internal dimensions on the tuffy? The website just says "Over 330 cubic inches of secured storage."

If the Tuffy is anything like the 2nd gen model, it is just a steel door, not a fully enclosed steel box.

Just a steel lid and some side supports. Plenty beefy for the occasional lock up.
