Has anyone tried the new ceramic coatings being touted as paint protection ? What have been your experiences?

Lots of people have used ceramic coatings. It's the way to go but it is expensive. Lots of prep works goes into it, but the same can be said for properly doing anything, including wax.

I have used Chemical Guys, Hydro Slick Hybrid Ceramic Wax. I am very impressed. I bet a professional Ceramic coating would be fantastic, but I am too cheap. I will stick to the this...

There is also this video that shows the spray on Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions is very good too...

Worth it. Get the right stuff that takes some effort to apply, not the quick wax crap that's marketing "ceramics" but is so diluted it's basically .00001% of the actual contents. A ceramic coating with multiple follow ups should last you a while. I do it before winters and after. So twice a year. Although, for the price, I can't knock the simple stuff. It's still probably better than most stuff. The stuff projectfarm reviewed is the type of stuff I use. Probably not as good as some of the pro stuff, but takes more effort than a quick wax as you dry.

I have been using them for years.
I have used on my vehicles Optimum Gloss coat, Gtechniq Exo, Carpro CquartzUK 3.0.
I currently have on my Truck and my wife's Explorer is Gtechniq CSL topped with Exo v4.
They make cleaning easier and not as much dirt will stick and clean off faster.
The downside of coatings is the prep work. Its alot of work to get the surface proper surgical clean. Also ceramic coatings are a little more prone to water spot but it does come off if you use a water spot remover. The coatings that have graphene say to be better at having water spots form.

All those "ceramic coatings" in that video are not true ceramic coatings. they are consumer-friendly versions that offer probably 1/4 of the protection as a true coating to make install applications much easier for the average consumer.

these are mostly the true ceramic coatings

Having a professional ceramic coating done imo, is best. Like said prepping the truck is key for a nice looking job that will protect the trucks paint surface for years. I had mine simonized glass coated 2 years ago, and never had to wash, or wax it yet. After a good rain, and the truck dries off, it looks like it was just detailed, no paint chips yet either. Its amazing what can be done now. I wished it was available back in 01 when i bought my tundra. After a couple years it had several paint chips that i was constantly touching up.
