It's fine. Just don't chowder the threads so the nuts can still function. Maybe leave them a tad taller than you need in case you have to clean the threads up, and you'll want to taper the cut ends with a file so it threads the nut easily.

Assuming the nuts are aluminum, so they might be a bit soft.

 

You ain't seen nuthin yet. In the mean time I recommend not taking up contact sports or raves.
