Usually I've been fine having 4x4 + snow rated tires (33" duratracs).

However, we're about to get a LOT of snow this week. Has anyone seen DOT enforce R3 (chains/no exceptions) on 80, 50, or 89?

More shit then I ever planned on doing
If 4x4 are required to have chains then nobody is getting through.

The only time I ever see R3 is on smaller roads. If 50,80, or the like are that bad they are just closed.

I took 89 to 88 from South Lake Tahoe back to the Bay Area last night. I saw a sign indicating 89 was closed (possible south of Alpine Village?) . 4x4 with snow rated was ok.

88 gets temporarily closed, at Kirkwood, for avalanche control at least once per season.
It could happen in the next 48 hours

They should just do what they do for MET and skip plowing.
