I swear I posted nearly that same screenshot a day or two ago when someone from NorCal was asking about it for a trip to Tahoe. I feel sorry for the sad Toyota technical writer whose ninth symphony never gets heard.

There is insufficient component clearance for chains on the front tires.

What do you think is stronger: tire chains or an upper control arm?

Edit: He deleted that post real fast...

Yeah, the chain straps are gonna hit the brake calipers.

Bless Toyota for keeping drum brakes in the rear.

Ridiculous comment. Chains are for people who drive through real weather. Also illegal to drive most mountain passes without having them in your vehicle. Leave the beer alone when posting.

I’ve heard you can chain the front with low profile cable type chains, but you’re the playing with fire.

I just had to double check but it looks like they will either rub against the steering knuckle or be very close. Regardless, every set of chains I have seen installed will have a couple extra links on the inboard hanging free when hooked. you don't want those taking out your brake or ABS wires do you?

FWIW I am the mechanic and alignment tech for a tire shop and I build custom chains for customers regularly by either adding cross links and adding side rail or shortening to fit the tire/wheel combo.

Ive simply had chains on my fronts and rears at the same time is all. Granted, not for very long, but there definitely wasn't any clearance issues.

I would say you lucked out,I get at least a couple trucks a year towed in that have taken out brake hoses/abs wires ect. You definitely don't want that in any scenario...
