I’ve got a Husqvarna 455 rancher, 20 inch bar. I’ve owned it for 5-6 years now, still runs flawlessly.

My Sthil MS211 has been collecting dust ever since I picked up an EGO 18" battery powered. No joke!

ECHO... Not as top quality as STIHL, but, 1/2 the price. With a 5-year warranty to boot. Had mine for about 10 years now, probably cut up a dozen full trees with it and many dozens of other projects.

Stihl or Husky. Both are about the same. I went with a 20" Stihl because I could get it worked on locally if necessary. No one in town worked on Husky.

At the time I needed 20". But a couple of years added a 14" Echo which gets used a LOT more. Of course when I need the 20" bar I need it. Truthfully the Echo has actually been a little better. Both run and cut fine, but the Echo is always easier to start.

I have a couple of Stihls, but my next one will be a Husqvarna. Stihls seem to have a real hard time starting, even when new

    Id go Husqvarna for gas.

But hear me out: the Milwaulkee battery power ones are remarkable, and if you have a few M18 batteries around anyway, you can get the tool only for about half a new gas saw. Plus then you dont have to pack premix gas and worry about leaks of you want to bring it out on the trails in your truck.

I was going to suggest those as well. Note that some National Forest have restrictions on chainsaws, at least part of the year but the electrics are quiet. ;) The Makita battery powered are getting good reviews as well. No battery powered saw is going to beat a gas one for larger jobs but for camping trips the ease of use of the battery ones is making me want one.

One thing that I've read is that the battery powered saws will eat up chaps worse than a gas saw (makes sense since they are high torque as soon as you pull the trigger) so you need to be extra careful.

It depends on your intended level of use. I have an Echo CS 400 with an 18" bar, it's been reliable for years, currently $300 at Home Depot. A friend bought a new comparably sized Stihl for $600, I've used it a lot on his place when he had cancer. It was heavier and felt more "quality" than my Echo but cut the same. I got a 12" DeWalt cordless one last year for light work, it's great. I've noticed the power company crews that trim trees use cordless ones.
