    Let's recap:

    1) You've weakened everything around this chromoly insert via welds in places the shock was never intended nor engineered to have them.

    2) You've altered the suspension geometry and travel of the vehicle, quite possibly resulting in complete inability to get it back to a safe, driveable alignment.

    3) Along the lines of #2, your vehicle will now handle completely differently, quite possibly in a completely unsafe manner at speed. You may no longer be able to perform avoidance maneuvers.

    4) I haven't calculated (nor care to) exactly what a 5" lift will do to other stock suspension components, but I'm almost certain you're binding the ball joints on your UCAs, and possibly on your LCAs as well, placing them under much higher stresses. If one of those lets go on the freeway, you're going to have as much, if not more, fun than a broken shock.

I could nitpick on smaller things. Those are the immediate problems that leapt to mind in about half a second when you actually made it clear you were serious. I thought this was some kind of epic troll.

3" at ride height. The shock can still go down another 4" unless you welded some other parts together.

If he passed me? I would laugh my ass off. If he hit me because of a failure of his fab work? I'd be pissed off but I'd let insurance deal with it. He knows its stupid now. He said from the get go he was looking to replace it.

People do stupid shit all the time. At least this guy is trying tor rectify it somewhat.

I didn't say you need to be nice. I ragged on him in the first couple of pages. You were just being obnoxious about it. But whatever makes you feel good about yourself.

    1. How do you think the rod i cut was attached to the shock in the first place?
    2. That's why people change uca's, to increase the caster lost by . . . you guessed it lifting your truck with either an extended coilover or ome coils etc.
    3. refer to 2.
    4. again i repeat, i agree 5" is too much

So are going to go back to stock or molest it some more to get 3"? You seem too confident your only problem is the 5".

Oh this mite be helpful too, on IFS front ends the lift rate is about x2. So say you stick in a 1.5 insert into the shock you will get closer to 3 inches. How much did you stick into the shock that gave you 5 inches.

By automotive engineers that carefully selected materials, quality-controlled build processes, and specifically designed the shocks to work correctly with the OTHER suspension components custom made for this vehicle by that same engineering team.

All welds and welding methods are FAR from created equal, materials are not created equal, and locations are not created equal. The original shock shaft was designed to be placed where it was. The original shock body was designed to take stresses in those areas.

Your jerry-rig isn't. You may get lucky and it's "good enough" to keep you or others from dying. It's if you don't that worries me.

Shit I'm glad you informed me...I had no idea. The pertinent question is have YOU done this at this time?

    YOU refer to #2.

ANY height using this method is too much. Refer to #1 to 3.
