Yup got everything figured out. Came out good. I Like these rokmen mounting feet i got. Gonna pick up some more cross bars from a friend and dedicate those to the tent. Planning on double stacking them to give it a slight rise off the side rails than its 8 screws to remove or put back on the truck like you mentioned.

I had a traditional RTT and very much disliked how long it took to set up and tear down. These are mounted to my cap, and my truck is lifted, and I'm short. So everything is going against me. This sets up in just a few minutes. I love not having to reach for a ladder to unfold a tent as well as trying to fold it back up and unzipping/zipping a cover. This is SO much easier. The mattress is more comfortable than the Geo Adventure Gear that I had. I slept in it for the first time last weekend when it only got down to about 40 degrees and I was super comfortable. Though I'll contribute that to the Enlightened Equipment quilt that I use. I was actually hot under that thing. I'd definitely recommend this tent. I'm in Pennsylvania by the way.

This is how I do it, it required a small spacer if you want it to be even easier because the side rails sit just a little higher than the cross bars. Get the tent on the roof, pick two cross bars that you want to mount to. Lift up the tent on one side (passenger or driver) and stuff something underneath to hold it up and undo the two cross bars that you are going to use. With the tent being raised and undoing the two bars it should give you plenty of room to get the mounts on with ease, drop the tent down and connect the two bars. Leaving the mounts a little loose on the first side may help you if the tent has shifted from where you ultimately want it to sit, choice is yours. Repeat on the otherside and done. If you leave the first side a little loose it gives you a chance to really center the tent how you want on the second side and than go back to finish the tightening once you have it where you want.

Once installed I keep the bars attached to the tent for removal so next time all you have to do is get it on the roof and righted the bars to the side rails which makes it quick and easy

You can also mount the bars on the tent prior to putting it on as if it was already mounted like I referenced above but it takes a couple more measurements to get it just right

Thanks Chandler, what spacer did you use. What do you need to clamp it to the cross bars?

aren't you guys worried about the stress on the shell? some of them i've been researching have a load of 200#. I guess there are enough people out there running these w/ load on the shell that haven't experienced any issues that we're aware of to date.

Just a small piece of aluminum, I just used some double sided foam tape to keep it in place while I mounted it

They do look pretty good on the inside with the liner used

Preferably 5, I don’t really need 5 but my safety net is ordering extra tents. So 30 tents is how many will be ordered, a minimum of 5 will be extra. The goal is for every 5 tents I have an extra, that’s a pretty good safety net ensuring everyperson who paid is taken care of rather than selling every tent and someone getting a bad apple and not being able to do anything about it immediately. So if 5 people are wanting a wedge then I will reserve one of the 5 extra tents as a wedge, that still keeps me in my 1 extra for every 5 safety net.

Kind of a long answer to your question

It's an A.R.E. Z-series. I never understood the whole "reinforcement" aspect. This is my second cap that I've purchased. The first being a Leer I found on eBay.

Same, I think it’s one of those things you’ll know right away if you have too much weight or not. Unless you personally build them or watched them add additional layers or fiberglass in person I don’t think you could ever know if you received one that’s reinforced or not. All comes down to personal confidence if you think it will be fine or not, fiberglass toppers are pretty stout so I think it would take a lot to crush one from weight above but that’s just my opinion

So you seem to know quite a bit about this load on camper shell thing, so do they calculate the moving load to be 200lbs and they have factored in going 70mph into a a headwind, or this stuff the owner of the shell will have to take in to consideration
