How does this hardshell tent compare to the CVT branded one? I really like the CVT but damn that price jump i saw recently just lost a potential customer.. i looked through this thread didnt see much info on full features/ details.

Hey "buddy" i understand what you said the first 3 times you quoted me with the same response, what i saw everytime on the site is "sold out" yes i know on clearance new product coming.. and the price point of red markings is my view of original price and not the msrp.. so that being said its too much of a jump for me dont have that kind of cash, so i came here looking for a better solution price wise dont need you trolling my posts.

Ive touched a few CVT tents, and the most noticed differences are zipper areas have a clear pvc sewn along the zipper track (not 100% sure what the purpose is), the top shell is shaped differently, the inside is a black fabric, has light and usb charger. Other than that what differences are their are minimal and unnoticeable at most

What full features/details are you looking for?

    Hey guys,

I don't quite fit in here vehicle wise, but found a link to this thread on IH8MUD, and having been in the market for a hardshell for quite a while now, I joined up to ask a few questions. I write & travel for my home-grown adventure blog (bicycled across America, thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail, oceanic sailing, overlanding, etc) and have a '17 WK2 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk that I've spent the last year modifying for backcountry exploration. After a 7,000 mile month-long expedition across North America and into the Canadian Rockies last summer, we decided a RTT would be our next big move. I love the look of hardshells, and think it's much sexier for the sleek look of the WK2.

Anyhow, a few questions. As a year-round outdoors kinda guy who lives in New England, I'm wondering what peoples experience is with this in bad weather, precipitation, cold temps, etc. I know pg. 1 says "fabric" but to clarify, is that canvas or some kind of rip-stop poly? Second question would be regarding replacement part availability. I take care of my gear, but would still wonder what options would be there should the struts fail or something. Last question is what the weight of this thing is.

I really love the idea of not paying extra to get a black one. Might just want to be the next guy on the buy list!

Thanks for any and all info... look forward to hearing any feedback.

    Ryan

The CVT Mt St Helens also has quite a bit larger footprint than the one Chandlerdoom is selling here and I don't want such a large tent for my truck. Coming from a soft shell rtt I wanted something as slim and low profile as possible.

    Chandlerdoom tent 85" x 53" x 12"
    vs
    Cvt Mt St Helens 90" x 65" x 14"

Okay so I spent a good deal of time yesterday and today reading all 50 pages of this thread, and found most of my answers to these questions. I'm sold.

@ChandlerDOOM - please put me down for a Black Shell/Grey Fabric.

To be clear. I’m only in if @ChandlerDOOM is getting the larger tent. I think another 2 people have to show interest for it to work out.

Are there any pics of the larger one mounted on a Tacoma? I could possibly get in on one instead of the smaller one.

    Thanks for updating the list!

Correct, I removed your name from the list but I want to say that we have enough for the large model I just need to track down all the people that wanted one...

Its never been order so no pictures, maybe a search for a large roof nest tent on a tacoma will bring better results

Yes sorry that I haven't updated. I sent what I wanted to see changed but I wont move forward with it until I receive something worth everyones time. It will likely be a separate group buy when it comes, sorry for the delay

Nearly there, I am trying to track down the large model people. I probably should have kept a separate list going, or atleast i thought I had one. But I want to say with the large model we are pretty much there.
