I can't recall the statement, but I think he alluded to a friend with a 4Runner was coming with.

Yup, I'm stupid. Just went back to find it and I saw "gotta get the truck ready for Expo" or something along the lines

Copy, we have a few friends with 4Runners that I think are planning to go. I won't make it as I'll be at Windrock Park for a 70 Series LandCruiser meet and can't keep taking off of dialysis every weekend.

I'll get to see it on the trailer when i get my tent from him this week. I do hope he's able to get it on in time for Expo. That's a hell of a project to take on in such short order though.

Too easy, we have a tight knit group of Toyota fanatics here in the region that are also keen to see it mounted onto his truck that are willing to help.

Oh fuck yes. I was really ok with dreams of a tray and it'll happen some day. No my patience is out the window and with a bun in the oven am realizing it may take a lot longer than I thought. Cheers to you my friend.

I'll hurt you a little more tomorrow ;)

    Thanks guys

Got mostly everything buttoned up tonight. Tomorrow with help from @VangaSTL going to get the lights wired up and after get the tents mounted. Gotta mount mine and @GC8Steve to bring it out to expo east with me for him.

Hopefully I'll have everything ready for the following weekend as I have to leave town for the week

Seeing this in action makes me want this type of setup even more for the truck. Can't wait to see the final result and see about throwing some money at you for one of these.

Is this the first time you seen one? If you want to see them in action go check out any Australian rig videos on YouTube.. there's 1000s. It's the most ideal setup for off road camping. I've been drooling over a tray and canopy setup for a few years now, and the more I've built and used my truck the more apparent it is why it's the best setup. I have used almost every inch of my truck with mods to upgrade the offroad capabilities and the camping/storage options. My biggest conclusion is that the bed sides on our truck are the biggest waste of space. The canopy allows for plenty of room with plenty of access and nothing in the way. Add that with enough room for two spares on the back and ya got a winner! The days of reaching over the bedrail or crawling in from the tailgate are over.

I just hope @ChandlerDOOM can hit a price point to please my wife. Other wise I'll be pursuing a DIY with lots of trials and tribulations. My ticking time bomb is when my cap fails enough to be unusable, I keep repairing it but when it's done I'm not buying another cap.. I'm not buying a flip pac.. I'm not buying a drop in bed camper.. I need a canopy setup on a tray to withstand the trails and have enough organizable options for my camp kitchen and gear.

Pics for reference of not being satisfied with the American build around bed sides..

No, I have seen them before, just wanted to see how it looked on his truck and everything. Been thinking about one for a while, this just makes it worse that I really want one.

Would also get rid of needing a high clearance rear with swing out as well as the spares and everything are right there.

Yea, price point would be great too, as I would also be wanting to do a RTT from him as well to go on top of it. My current shell is not rated for a RTT so I don't want to risk it and it end up cracking, but I can get enough money from selling it to essentially pay for the RTT from him.

I have also been looking at the DECKED system for the Mid Sized truck, but for that price point, that would be a good chunk of change for a tray setup as well and that only gives me two drawers for storage and takes up more room.

Being able to have the tray and then remove it to have the flat bed when and if I needed it is also a big plus for me. Would be able to keep all my gear better organized and just pull up somewhere and have camp setup in 30 minutes or so as compared to picking camp, setting up tent, unloading stuff, etc etc.
