Good on ya then I say save up and go for it! All the reasoning are justified. I don't care much for the removal of it, that's a big thing for a buddy of mine. I just want what's right for the application to which I'll use it. I already setup camp in under 30 mins, I'm not boasting just saying doing so out of the rear in a pita, especially with the tailgate down pushing you further away from where ya wanna stand. And by the way I have a generic Leer cap without any reinforcement. I bolted my own cross bars right through the thin fiberglass shell. The shell itself is showing hardship but mostly from trail abuse not from sleeping on top.

The removal of it won't be used much, but is nice to have. Especially if I wanted to offload it, setup camp, and then needed to run somewhere in the truck or something.

I got my shell second hand and then have the Prinsu on it, I had thought about building some bars for the inside to reinforce it, just never did as I still never wanted to risk it.

Now that I have a baby on the way, I was looking at a teardrop trailer setup that could support a RTT down the road when the kids are older, but the tray setup still looks like a better option overall with holding gear and everything, especially for trips where I would not want to pull a trailer. It would also eliminate need for swing out bumper, drawer system, etc etc.

Hey man, love your rig, mines gettin there. I was wondering where you got the U.S. map on the inside of your shell's back window? I assume you get stickers to fill in the states you have been too? Thanks

Thanx. I got them from @spieler after seeing the thread and decals in person a buddy got. My buddy got the same map decal for his garage fridge and is doing every state he's been to. I'm doing states that I've camped in. Recently did a cross country trip that earned 12 states. Looking at the map now is great to see where I've been and motivated to get to places I haven't.

There a link to the thread

Once you factor in not have to buy a high clearance rear bumper with swing out ($2000), a high quality camper shell with rack ($2500), and bed drawers and organizers ($1500), you could have a lot of money to throw at a setup like this.

Exactly my thinking, as one payment yes it will be expensive upfront but if you figure everything bought together it's easier to understand

Nope, I built the spare tire carrier for 35s, the fenders for 35s, and bed height with dakars for 35s. So I have to make the 37s fit to my liking. Most don't have a tire over 35 so it made more sense to build it for 35 and below.

Ill have to move the flares out and trim a little, and raise the bed height and i should be good

Here on Oahu, he only have a few places to wheel, and the place we go often has a kinda central campsite with trails all around, so I like to dump all my gear (and wife :D) and then go wheeling. The "overland" guys with the RTTs have to wheel with that shit and all their other crap, I'd rather carry just recovery gear, go wheeling, and then come back to camp and have hot food and cold beer waiting for us
So I've been in love with the Australian landcruiser 79 trucks with the lift off canopies. That's the only way I'd run an RTT. Glad to see it being done in the US
