Having had my new Taco for a couple of weeks now, I realize how terrible the stereo is compared to my 2021 Passport (not that the stereo in there was killer but at least it has *some* bass to it). Thinking about swapping out my factory headunit for something with RCA's that can output to an amp and changing out the door speakers but I'm a little worried on what "features" the new headunit would not support that the factory headunit does.

I'm not worried about all the Toyota connect stuff and the Maestro unit should interface all the OBD2 stuff for mileage and similar; is there anything I'm not thinking of that I missed?

The only thing that I lost when replacing mine was the compass and music tab on the dash. Everything else will continue to work as it should.

    Yeah
You’ll loose the ability to change all your settings / defaults without having techstream. It’s not just radio stuff, it’s things like how the door locks work and I don’t even remember what all else is in there…

First thing you should upgrade is your door speakers and add Subaru door tweeters before you go yanking there HU. Try it, a lot of us are more than satisfied and we get to keep 100% of OE functionality. In the end if you’re still not happy think about how much better that aftermarket HU will sound with the upgraded speakers, it’s a win-win!

It depends on the radio model that you replace the stock unit with. I have a Joying radio and it retains the ability to change the lock settings and a few other things.
