Change OEM 14” wheels to larger size?

Hello folks,

I have a standard 2000 Tacoma SR5 V6 with OEM 14 inch wheels (!). What’s on there now are junkie Sears 215 70R14.

Very sad because I can no longer get quality like Michelin in that size. Can I switch out the wheels for 15 inch? Or even 16 inch? Much more variety in tire selection with the larger rims. Would also like a wider tire.

Which do users prefer: 15 or 16? Looking to get the most cushy ride.

As mentioned above, yes. I swapped my 2003 16” wheels for 15” as the tires tend to be lighter and cheaper in that size. An inexpensive way to get a quality wheel correctly sized for the truck is to pick up some used 15” Tacoma/4Runner wheels from a 95-00 truck.

Should I presume any wheel with 5 lugs and 4.5" will fit?

I wasn’t thinking about the 5 lug angle earlier. You also need to consider backspacing/offset.

If going for a used wheel replacement I’d look for alloys vs steel wheels. The 5-lug section of the forum may be more helpful in wheel recommendations.
