So is Toyota saying here that the oil can make it 10k miles OR 12 months? I thought 6 months was the recommended max time between oil changes.

Either the salesman misspoke (slightly) or you may have possibly misunderstood him. For the first 25K miles the service intervals are 5K, but the oil change intervals are 10K. So yes, you're supposed to bring it in every 5K miles, but you do not have an oil change every time.

The rest of this thread - people debating the oil change interval recommendation by Toyota, people misinterpreting Toyota Care, etc - is what makes the 3rd Gen Forum the short bus of TW. Yeeesh.

The first time it goes in, it will be a 5000 mile service. They do not change the oil but they rotate the tires. If you go and register on www.toyota.com/owners it will give you the maintenance schedule and the services performed. It will also let you know when the free service expires.

What if I have added bigger/smaller tires and have not done the speedo correction? How do I calculate the revised interval?

If you predicted an alternative outcome I’m going to assume you did poorly in school.

Toyota care includes tire rotations. So that’s the reason he said every 5k. So every 5k you get a rotation, and every 10k an oil change. It’s free under the Toyota care program. Your sales person is just half retarded and doesn’t know the truck has a 10k oil change interval

You do bring it in every 5k, but its 5k for tire rotations and 10k for oil changes.

When I bought my 17 I checked the service history (using my toyota website) and it does show my truck had its oil changed every 5,000 under Toyota Care. I didn't own the truck then but that's what the records show

Bro. Simple. Take it every 5k and the dealer will do their end of the deal. Free 25k mile maintenance. It’s more than oil changed they rotate tires check fluids and filters. Let them do there part. It’s also part of your warranty

Don’t fall for the 30k bullshit. After that just ask for oil change and tire rotation because it’s your money then and if you say time for 30k service. Cha Ching $280 for a bunch of non sense.
