Hit 3k miles on my Taco driving out to Utah a couple weeks ago. Should I change the oil myself now (kinda curious to try synthetic) or wait until 5k and get the toyota care change?

I waited til 5k, you will get mixed answers. If you have the toyota care they will charge another $30ish for synthetic.

Quick question. My dealership told me 10k for first service that there is synthetic in my truck? I haven't seen anything to where that would be true?

Don't have a definitive answer for you but here is my path.

I'm at 1300 miles and will change to 5w-30 conventional oil at 2500 miles. Then at 5000 I'll go either Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Premium synthetic. And change every 5000 miles after that.

    All DIY...

Your owner's manual will tell you exactly what you need to know. Look under the 'maintenance' section near the back.

You will read many different answers. Your owners manual will tell you what to do. You can also print this off and take it with you when you go to get it done.

Thanks guys. I'll probably wait until the Toyota Care change then.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
This is exactly what I did but I had the dealership do the 1st oil change. After that it was every 5K either M1 or PP with a factory filter. :)
