Change plugs before or after seafoam?

    I am about to do a tune up on a 99 taco v6 with 160,000 miles on it.
    Was wondering if I should change the plugs before or after I seafoam it?
    Also should I change the oil after as well? If so how soon after I foam it should I change the oil? Cleaning the MAF and throttle body as well, do this before or after seafoam? I have a CEL telling me to replace o2 sensors so I plan on doing this after the foam. Just want to make sure I go in the correct order on this process.

    First off let me say I have NOT seafoamed a vehicle so others that have, will chime in for you I'm sure.

    To me though, if I were going to do the seafoam deal, I'd change the plugs after so that I had good, clean, new plugs to tune the engine with.

    Part of a tune would be changing the oil also. I'd probably change after.

    As a note, I thought I saw somewhere that the seafoam was like a three parter. Could be remembering wrong here, but thought I saw were you put a third in the fuel tank, a third in the oil and a third sucked through the vac line into the engine while it runs. As I said, could be very wrong so check before you do it. Seem to remember that it was supposed to clean the whole engine in theory.

    Either way, I'd change the oil after you were done seafoaming everything myself.

    As far as cleaning the MAF and throttle body (don't forget the idle control under the throttle body) don't have an opinon. Good thing to do though. Guess the only thing I would say is do one, get the truck up and running cleanly again and then I'd do the other. Just say as if you have some issue getting the truck back up and running right again (not saying what you are doing will cause you a problem) at least you have only done one thing and not a load of things so you don't know where to start to diagnose the issue.

    Lot of good articles on cleaning the MAF and throttle body. Myself I took the throttle body and idle control off to do it. Just to make sure I got the best job I could do. I also cleaned in the top manifold plenum at the same go as my truck had a lot of gunk there as well. Cleaned by pulling the gunk out of the plenum and not by gushing it down into the engine with cleaner.

    Anyway, hope that helps a bit. I'm sure there are seafoam guru's that will hop on and get you fixed up.

    replace the plugs if you put it through the brake booster hose or in the fuel.

    replace the oil after about 1000 miles or less if you put it in the crank case, same goes for tranny or diffs.

    id do the MAF after as well and TB before.

    I'll also add:

    Remove your EFI relay (and I also disconnected the neg cable from the battery) before you clean your MAF and TB. Then reinstall it after everything is cleaned and hooked up.

    It'll help your computer relearn/reprogram based off the cleaned MAF sensor and sparkling clean TB

    Not sure you have to disconnect the whole relay, but the battery is a good idea, leave it disconnected for about 30 mins.

    I have done all the hi-pro mods for a life time, since I got this truck at a great price, I will be happy with showroom new.
    seafoam first. after i got my truck last winter, I did a step by step tune up, seafoam first! dont know if u have ever done it before or if the truck has had it done but if not be mindful of the amount going in, take it steady. i don't think mine had ever been done, but I spent several days on it, its really going to smoke so try to do it out of the way, and near a highway to open her up, and make sure the truck is good and warm. mine has 177,000 miles she uses no oil and no payments, but go through my post I have shared link for all that and very good links here.
    follow the instructions here for plugs. now for me the next tune up thing and close to the last for now is the coils. its only 3, since they are a slave spark system, and they are only going to last so long, and when they get old they can just fail, get wet and die... so dont forget those,
    i just replied to the same basic thing on 02 sensors at CEL scanguage codes.
    and go ahead and replace both.
    and if you have not heard check out rockauto you will save.
    blow all the e10 carbon out and then TAKE YOUR TIME and do this step by step.
    these truck are so easy to service, work on, and slice under to change the oil with out jacking it makes me cry to think about the aggravation i went through with my lowered mustang.

    I just went by the write up on that 4runner website and the guy said to remove the EFI :notsure:

    I just do what I'm told, man :mad:
