Those controls dont use leds, they are painted. It would be a pain to take off the old paint and repaint them the color you want...

its orange plastic sandwiched between clear plastic on the inside and the painted symbols on the outside. you can make them red...but thats about it. and yes, its only two bulbs.

no, like i said, its sandwiched between....but if you can figure it out, you'll be the first around here that has done it...guys have been working on it for nearly 5 years and have yet to succeed...;)

you get the choice of red or amber, or whatever ugly color blue light and orange plastic will produce!!

it will require you getting the OEM graphics printed on some clear plastic that is molded to match the OEM. that is the only way...trust me! like i have said, no one in the 5 years of the current taco has successfully changed the color. there was a guy that sort of did it, but his decal painting sucked....nothing against him, its just too hard to do it.

Its an orange coating under the paint on the face of the plastic. You can sand down the face and get the orange off, but the problem is that its very difficult to repaint the icons on.

And... I have successfully changed mine to Red.

I didnt sand mine. You can do red without sanding.

I recently bought a stereo microscope. I plan on trying to remove the orange paint using some fine tools, i.e. dissecting tools or X-acto etc. using a clamp and decent magnification. Idea is to remove the paint only from the orsnge icon area. Even if it works, it will be time consuming, and results are likely to be erratic. And no, I'll only be attempting this one time, on my own dash.

I'm busy with other things, and this is way down on the list of to do's. Eventually I'll give it a shot, and report back then. Thought I'd put my idea out there. There may even be others with a 'scope willing to try.....wink wink.

Inside is a very complicated light pipe. so to get even coverage with LEDs you will need to build a custom array.

Hey s10nick, I wasn't replying directly to you saying I won't do the "dissection" to other trucks, that was a generic "don't ask" to everyone reading the thread.

My fingers are too big, hands too unsteady and eyes too old to even think about it!! My truck, well I bought a truck, it's not meant to stay pretty!! If I F it up, my bad but I can live with it.
