@Speedytech7 you've got some good experience with the 3rz. Anything come to mind here for this guy? Looks like it cranks and turns but doesn't fire up.

I'm wondering if it could be an issue with the coil packs? I'm getting air and fuel, no spark.. I could do a compression test to check the valves maybe?

The igniter connected? You have a distributor or coil packs?

If you're not getting spark, then that's the issue.

^I second this. double check the igniter is all the way plugged in.

Gotta be a connection left undone or a ground unconnected. It doesn't happen a lot, but enough to double check it, but the wires going into the connectors for the coil packs can back out just enough to where one of them won't complete the circuit and you get symptoms like you describe. Maybe double check each of the wires going into the connectors that plug into the coil pack?

Does anyone know what this plug is? I don't remember taking it off but there's like nothing or nowhere to plug it in at? It's on the backside of the intake manifold20190715_191101.jpg 20190715_190955.jpg

If it makes you feel any better, i've installed my 5VZ head gaskets on the wrong side before and didn't realize it until only half the motor warmed up. Had to redo the entire job the next night and buy another set of head gaskets. lol

Looks like its got a factory cap on it. I have one or two of those in my engine bay as well. wouldn't suspect that to be the problem if it's capped.

Take a look at what obd is telling you. I'm thinking a sensor that tells the ecu to fire isn't plugged in all the way, or maybe you pinched a wire somewhere. Check all your ground wires, try adding a ground jumper battery to block, head, frame, anywhere you see bare metal. Be patient, the ah ha moment will come.

This is what I'm leaning towards as well, just don't know what the actual issue is yet and can't wait til OP tells us.
Also OP like guy mentioned above, you may have had all timing marks aligned but did you rotate the engine a couple times by the crank bolt after aligning? The marks would also align for BDC as well but after a rotation would be in aligned, so you know that would be off

I know the feeling, I've had a few Bluetooth OBD2 readers over the years and they'd connect to one vehicle and not another but a different 'bad' reader could connect, etc. Frustrating as hell
