My 2010 has 102,000 miles on it. I decided to change the spark plugs and throw some bosche double Iridium in it. Mind you the plugs are factory original. I took all 6 plugs out. The driver side had NGK plugs and the passenger side had Denso plugs. Anyone know why a factory truck would have 2 different plugs in it? Anyone else seen that before? 20180323_151735.jpg

From what I'm told, you buy replacement plugs from Toyota and you get Denso/NGK mixed set. Back when I raced dirt bikes years ago, NGK supplied me with plugs. Still use em to this day. I run their irridiums. Very satisfied!

I was shocked by the numbers at the gas station the other day.
    $4.16 a gallon?

Normal....except the fact that this should be almost the 4th time to change em :D you should easily pick up a mile or two per gallon and the truck should run a lot better!

I jut bought some from Toyota and they just give you the Denso plugs. They said they have less issues with the Denso over the ngk.

My dealer told me just the opposite...

Comparing both in truck with both brands used in concert seem to indicate no difference.

Another reason why I dont listen to dealers.

    They tend to be self-serving.

At any rate...last set of NGKs ran me 110k miles and looked good when changed. Insignificant difference in fuel mileage when changed. I saw little if any drop off in mileage over the plugs life span. Good plugs with modern Hei ignition last 100k +. More difference with dirty to clean air filter change....

It was a mechanic/parts guys that told me that. He said they see less issues in the shop with the denso. Either way, they would make no more with either plug. Anyone from this area that deals with Rahal Toyota, also will agree that they are a decent dealership. They’re straight forward and no BS. Most dealerships are horrible, but these guys are very customer service oriented.

Rather than rely on anecdotal comments from dealership mechanics hawking a product that is made by a division of Toyota (Denso) I tend to rely on independent testing done by 3rd party testing labs. In 4 seperate reports, NGK ranks 1, 1, 2, an 1 for reliability Best Denso rated was 4th in one test, low of 7th.

It's also telling that while Denso is a spin off company started by Toyota, they still use NGK as their primary source for plugs.

Long story short I suspect they BOTH exceed standards required for normal use.

I've owned 5 Toyota trucks.....1st 4 logged over 300k miles. (1 over 500k) current truck close to 150k. Never had ANY ignition related problems or failures. I always run plugs 90k to 125k between changes. I tend to get above average mpg.... Just lucky I guess.

Ngk is toyotas primary source for plugs but use 50/50 on our trucks?

As in, most other yotas run only ngk from factory?

Never really ever heard of spark plug issues... if installed correctly and gaped correctly.

a little anti seize on the plugs is a good idea too.
