Hi guys it’s Richie I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma 6 cly double cab I just change the transmission range sensor now the truck doesn’t start or crank and it does not come out of park unless I push down on the release button in the console I disconnected the battery to see if it resets but that did not help. I do have a remote start but that hasn’t worked correctly for a long time so not sure if that has anything to do with it. I will appreciate any input you guys can help with, thanks

I replied to your question in another thread, but let’s make this one the one we keep up with.

Do your brake lights come on if you step on the brake pedal?
Let’s narrow down your problem. This is step 1, and it’s easy to test.

Have you checked the 10A Stop fuse?

Yes checked it, fuse is good but no power going to it. I have no headlights no tail lights no crank no horn no power going to the starter relay or to the starter fuse when I turn the key all I get is the battery icon on the dash. Could it be that when I change the transmission range sensor I sprayed the plug to clean it with mass flow sensor spray cleaner think that did something?

So I just checked the battery battery was dead don’t know how that happened so quickly but I’m charging the battery now I get brake light headlights on full dash lights but when I turn the key it does nothing and it doesn’t come out of park it stays locked in part unless I push the release part button on the console and I put it in neutral and still nothing when I turn the key.

I’ll have to look at the diagrams and think it over. I won’t be able to loom at anytime until later tonight.

Until then, maybe one of the other members here can post up power distribution diagram for you.

Everything is working electrical wise and it comes out of park, guess when the battery was dead it wouldn’t come out of park.
But still get no crank at all when I turn the key. All fuses are good, no power to the sta relay or sta fuse. The relay and fuse are good.

Have you tried moving the shifter while holding the key in the crank position?

    First, do what @Dm93 said.
If it starts, the the PNS might be out of adjustment.
That’s no problem, I can help you there.

    If that doesn’t work.

You can check pins 1 and 5 of the STA Relay. You HAVE TO BE CRANKING THE ENGINE to check it.
This will help diagnose the problem.
I’m betting pin 1 is the problem.
If Pin 5 also has no power, we got other problems. And it isn’t the PNS switch.

    Hi Guy’s,

Ok, I took the switch plug connector off and sprayed both sides of it, also took the connectors off inside the lock panel and sprayed them with electrical cleaning spray, let them dry and connected them back, messed with the killer switch for the auto remote back and forth and all of the sudden it cranked and started up. Took it for a ride the shifter is working as it should, the gear lights work correctly now on the dash as I shift from gear to gear, but I still have a whiny noise in the transmission and I just changed the tranny oil and filter about a year ago.
Would you know what can be causing the whinny noise? Can it be one of the other sensors in the tranny?
I appreciate all the help from you guys, thank you for your time and sharing your knowledge.
