l remember on one of my trips visiting California as a kid. My parents driving down the freeway, and seeing what looked like a wall of fog ahead of us going across the freeway. When we drove into it, we realized it was smog!!
As long as the money collected for emissions is going towards emissions, and not into the general coffers. Many places use "emissions" and "clean air" as a way to just raise taxes that go into the general coffers.
But California has a lot of other issues that they have to pay for. Which they themselves unfortunately created.

DMV fees.....ya, bad subject for me. Last year with three cars, $2735. Hopefully later this year I’ll be in Texas and avoid all the renewals.

It’s just money. We get to live in California, so it’s all well worth it.

Interesting to me that the OP provides information that should be considered good news for Californian’s and few congratulate California. Instead bash this wonderful state. What’s up with that?

Which seems to be the young in most states, including New Mexico where I now live, but born and raised in San Diego.

I’ve lived in CA for nearly 40 years....liberal kommies have turned it from CA to KA. Beautiful in every sense of the word but being driven into the ground. Now with Gavin as Gov, he’s pushing the stick forward. I won’t be around for the crash. It’s not bashing, just facts.

Born and raised in Calif and have lived here 54 of those 57 years !!! , I remember the Smog alerts or advisories back in the 60's thru the 80's and it was bad back then

I currently live in the High Desert in Socal and when heading down the hill (Cajon pass) I can still see noticeable brown haze over the I-10 Corridor . So there's definitely still Smog here but much better than it has been

I’ve lived in California for 52 years (my whole life) and I have not experienced anything negative. It is the Golden state.

California is a bit conservative for me in some ways. I think the only state I would consider living in other than California is Hawaii.

I haven’t experience that. I have travelled quite a bit and haven’t found a nicer place to live, except maybe Hawaii.

EDIT: Paris France is pretty outstanding too.

Better than freezing your junk off and having to dig out the snow just to get to your vehicle every year.
