I mean there is a possibility. Sometimes it didn’t seem to suck the fluid out as much as other times. It’s hard to say though if it was the pump or not though.

I have never had any luck bleeding brakes with a vacuum pump. You do have air in the system.

How do you normally do it?

I did do my wife’s car about a year ago and we just did the two person method: opening and closing the bleeder valves while someone presses the brakes. And that worked pretty well tbh.

I use the Motive pressure bleeder system. One person works great. I have also done the 2 person system like you mention but if they lift their foot a bit you now enterduced air back in the system. Where the Motive you pressurize the master cylinder no way air can get in unless you run the Motive tank dry. I like this system a lot, it has never failed me and it's a one person job.

YES, ensure you get a Toyota cap and don't over pressure the system. I usually pressurize about 5-8 psi.

You need a constant vacuum otherwise air will just get in past the threads of the bleeder screws between pumping. And vacuum pumps don't work well with ABS systems with out pumping the brake pedal, especially the tacomas equipped with ATRAC.

If you are going to use vacuum pump instead of a pressure bleeder, two different things by the way, you need something like the FirstInfo AH1106H. That is what i got, there are smaller cheaper sizes, but you still need to pump the brakes yourself, still makes it a one person job, but with extra steps.

I had problems with the bleeder threads leaking air and using up all the vacuum. It might not be a bad idea to take them out and put some Teflon tape on the threads. Of course that will introduce air.

@e_engstro did you ever figure it out or fixed your brake situation? I am going to do my fluids for my trd pro soon. did you follow those steps previously mentioned having the car on and having the brake pedal pressed while bleeding the rears?

i have also found a video with that method.

I have a Motiv pressure bleeder, and it is OK. I had a terrible time getting all the hose fittings to stop leaking. Once I used different hose clamps, it was better. I like it because I can see the level of the fluid in the tank.

My favourite brake bleeder was given to me by the widow of an elderly neighbour in 1980. I had borrowed it from him for several years before he died. He built it out of terne metal tubes and pipes, and added a pressure guage and a regulator. It hooks to an air compressor, the smaller the better. He had been a La Salle mechanic in the 1930s, and he swore it was the best brake bleeder he ever used. I have to agree. The only catch with it is to fill it with 1-1/2 quarts of fluid, and then keep track of what comes out of the bleeder screws.

    Buy this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F9XHVKA

It’s a one man bleeder bottle but it also has a check valve on it. Fluid can only go one way due to the check valve so air can’t get back into the system. It’s like the old coke bottle full of fluid with a hose but better. You just attach this bottle to the bleeder, it also has a magnet to attach it to the rotor, crack open the bleeder and pump the brakes. Fluid and air can’t go backward so it makes it easy and hard to screw up.
