    No shop needed. But on TRD OffRoad models you do need to drop the rear portion of the engine skid plate to access the front diff.

    Well i just changed mine today. 20000 miles with some off roading in the mud and water. Is it bad if the stuff that comes out looks like chocolate milk?? i figured it was just mixed with some water. Oh and it fixed a clunk that was happening when i switch from drive to reverse and start moving or reverse to drive and start moving. :)

    I guess I just want to clarify but did you say that the oil should run out of the fill plug when full? Because I put 3 qts in and it never ran out.

    It doesnt always run out. Depends on how level the surface is that you are working on. 3 quarts is what the book says.

    Very level. It was in my garage because my driveway is sloped.

    On a side note I got a copy of the service manual.:yay:

    quick question because i couldn't find anything absolutely specific when i searched...

    i am about to change everything, front, rear, transfer, and tranny...all with amsoil full synthetic...they have both GL4 and GL5...what is the difference and what should i buy...?

    should i get all gl4, or all gl5, or a bit of both?

    A GL-5 is for Hypoid gears. It has addatives that aid the lubrication of the spiral cut of them. GL-4 is for trannys, as the GL-5 addatives can be harmfull to Brass, Bronze, or Copper used in transmissions. HOWEVER, Im not aware of any transmission made in the last few years that uses any of those metals in them. Or any that would be harmed by the use of a GL-5 fluid. ANyway.....Use the GL-5 in the Diffs and the GL-4 in the tranny and Transfer case. :)
