All fluid capacities are in your owner's manual. It's almost like Toyota thought you might need this information at some point and created a handy reference with it all in one place...

So this may have been covered, but with Royal Purple oil you DO NOT need any additives for the LSD correct?

To change both differentials and transfer case you need:
    1.1 QT 75W-90 GL-5 (transfer case)
    1.6 QT 75W-90 GL-5 (front differential)
3.0 QT 75W-90 GL-5 (Rear differential with LSD)

So if I just get 6 QT of 75W-90 GL-5 Royal Purple I'll be all set to change all 3?

if you have a LSD you need LSD additive. And yes 6 should be good.

Ok so tomorrow I think I am going to try and change out the my diffs oil. I saw that royal purple was getting some good feed back through page 6 of this thread and I didn't feel like reading the other 15 pages. So if you have put RP in the diffs, could you all let me know what you think so far and where is the best place to buy, store or internet? THANKS!

As far as I know, The only Synthetic oil that the rear LSD likes is the Royal Purple.

Redline works fine so far with my LSD. No chatter and works grabs just as well as with the factory oil! Ask the rep if the friction modifier is in the oil already. Redline has the modifier already in it.

When you turn, it will make a chattering/grinding sound. It may take a few miles to show up.

    1. dont bother with the hose for the bottle of gear oil. I tried it and managed to get he bottle to explode all over me as I got gear oil in my eye, up my nose and in my mouth. Gagging, blowing my nose and blind... I made it to the sink. At least it was fresh oil. Just squeeze in what you can, and just put the remainder into the next bottle. You can get almost al of a bottle out sans hose wit the rear diff. so maybe do that one last.

    2. Rear diff. DEFINITELY take the tire out. Makes life SOOOO much easier. Oh and if you waited 60k miles to do the rear diff and the fluid is more like a black toothpaste you may wanna do what I did to get the most out of your$10/qt mobil1 gear oil. I ran back to the store and got the cheapest stuff they had (Coastal) and threw that in for a few miles around town and then drained it and put the Mobil 1 in. I kept the Coastal in case I have the same issue in the front.

Did the tranny yesterday and plan on doin the front diff and the spark plugs tomorrow!

That's a good idea for those that are negligent in their scheduled maintenance , flushing it out with the cheap stuff. I'm going to keep it in mind in case I am derelict in my duties.:D

    back to bone stock.
great thread...gonna do it next weekend. time to collect the stuff i need. last time i did this job, it was on a chevy, without a drain plug. i made a mess out of my MIL's garage. no brownie points that day.

i got a locker, so i will try to find the royal purple, or just go with the dino stuff..i plan to stay up on the upkeep, so i will change it regularly..
