I used the Valvoline High Performance Gear Oil With the Limited Slip. I have the LSD OIL ONLY sticker on my diff. Should I get the additive?

if you open the hood, and look at the passenger side wheel well, is there a box with a bunch of brake hard line coming out of it? if the answer is yes, you dont need additive. if you have NOTHING on the wheel well, you DO need additive.

Im not positive, but I believe its 09-current that have that box. let us know what you find.

This is my passenger wheel well

I think I have the LSD, my truck is an 08 and it has the LSD Oil Only sticker on the diff cover shown as the white vertical rectangle below.

I put LSD Oil in it but I was wondering if I should get the tube additive as well. I'm not sure if I'm imagining it, or if it is my tires, but it sounds like a chirp noise when I take turns at around 20+ mph

you dont need the additive because that box uses your brakes to create the effect of a Limited Slip Diff

(at least thats the way I understand it. Correct me if I am wrong)

Use LSD oil but shouldn't need a bottle of additive..

Maybe some others could confirm this?

Okay that's what I ended up doing. And putting LSD oil in my front diff and transfer case shouldn't hurt right?

If the rear end has an LS Diff oil sticker, then it has a mechanical LS Diff, and requires the addative.

Ah crap, so what additive do you recommend? And Putting LSD Oil (not the additive, just the oil) in my front diff and transfer case shouldn't hurt right?

Oil that says "LS" on it, doesnt have the addative. The "LS" means its safe for use in LS diffs. Its a marketing thing. Use the addative pictured in the first post.

So I just did the rear differential and when I went to the store the "friendly" counter guy grabbed the bottles for me after I asked where the gear oil was and I told him I needed 75w-90.

So I finish up the job and I am cleaning everything up when I notice one of the bottles is 75w-140!

So currently the rear diff. has 2 qt. of 75w-90 and 1 qt. of 75w-140.

Is it OK to leave like this or do I need to drain brand new oil and start from square one?

My recommendation is to start over, the viscosity being too high could be pretty useless

"Yesterday we (Chris4x4, and I) got together to help you all change your diff fluid.

    Here is what is required;

-24mm socket (1st gen diff may be a different size)
    -ratchet
    -rags/shop towels
-milk jug or coffe can... EMPTY ofcourse!
-3 qts 75-90 weight gear oil ( I used 80-90 becasue it was readily available)

(for you guy like me w/ the Sport model, you'll need a 4oz. tube of LSD additive)."

From the first post - Yes, if you have the sticker you need the additive

I read through this thread once awhile back but don't remember if this question had been addressed (don't have the time right now to go though the whole thread again.) After changing the front/rear diff's and transfer case gear oil should the truck be driven then the levels checks again and do you need to get in/out of 4wd to work the gear oil through for an accurate reading?

Just to make sure I am reading this correctly, if I do not have a LSD, I do not need to add the LSD additive. Is this correct?
