I'm not sure how much 'extra' I may have put in. Didn't realize until afterwards. I'm fairly certain I filled it to spec, went on and did a few other things and then came back and topped it of until it started to trickle out the top. Realized it when I took inventory of what I used and I had less left than thought I should.

I'm in the same boat here.
I read the write-up on the first page, but when filling, i used all 3 quarts and nothing was dripping out of the fill hole. I started a 4th quart and used about half ... 3.5 quarts total. This is where I started to get a trickle out of the fill hole.
So, I'm a bit confused ... should it be filled 'til drippage, or 3 quarts total.
If this is over-filled I can drain or siphon some out.

    .5 quart shouldn't hurt anything.

If you have rear locker do you still need to add the LSD additive?

I used Mobil 1 that already has the additive, shouldn't matter right? I hope not as i used it for front, rear and t-case! Super easy but getting my skids off and back on were a PITA!

despite the " LS " on the bottle, it does not have the additive in it. The label on the back states that it is simply safe for limited slip differentials, and that's what the LS means.

Ok, please bear with me. I'm really trying here. I'm trying to catch up on some long neglected maintenance. (Did my plugs yesterday and took lots of pics so I might do a write up from a fairly noop perspective.)

I have a stock '04 Pre-Runner Xtra cab with 123k miles. I'm assuming it has LSD for it's not a 4 wheel drive and it has nothing fancy other than ECT (which I've never totally understood.) So I assume it would need the LSD additive though I see nothing in my owners manual about it?

Also in my owners manual it shows the following amounts with or without differential lock system. Not terribly sure what that is but I'm going to guess I don't have that. I'm also going to assume I have the short wheel base and not the xtra long wheel base.

    Rear - without RDLS = 2.7 qts.

Does that sound correct? And would that be 2.7 plus the additive? Or do I even need the additive?

Thanks, and apologies in advance. I haven't read all 50 something pages of this. I read the first few and the last few.

Look at the rear end and see if there is A white sticker that says LSD in black letters.

    getting there....
3 quarts of an 80w90 or 75w90 will do good for ya. not sure if you have an lsd or not, but you can add a little additive and its not going to hurt anything either way.

he doesnt have an LS Diff. Its an Open diff, and needs no addative.
