Ok...did the rear and transfer case. Both looked like honey, with some gunk and crap on the rear diff plug. One question, on the transfer case, both plugs were identical. No magnet on the drain plug.

    Is that normal?

Must be normal. I just changed mine today at 30k. Both the diffs had really dark fluid and a gooey sludge on the drain plugs but the tcase fluid looked brand new.

I meant that the transfer case drain plug did not have a magnet. Both fill and drain plugs were identical.

One more testimonial here, I browsed through this thread back from when it started several years ago. Didn't read everything carefully enough so I assumed the Mobile 1 Synthetic - LSD product was a newer version that overcame the LSD chatter mentioned way back earlier. (Hey, it say's LSD right on the bottle :D)

I have the 07 TRD Sport 2WD with the LSD differential and I used the above. Couple days later I am getting a chattering or vibration first starting out in the am backing out at a 90 degree and such.

So I now see my error and will be dumping that in favor of regular oil with additive immediately.

At least that is what I hope the noise is anyway, the dealer just did the full tranny flush a week or so ago as well. Going to be POd if it turns out something in the tranny.

No need to dump the new oil. Just add the lsd additive

I was under the impression that has already been tried with the Mobile 1 synthetic without success. I read (here) that the issue is only with the 05 - 08 models with the mechanical LSD unit.

But, yes it would be great if I can find an additional additive that would correct it. Any others have experience or feedback on that?

the "lsd" on the bottle just means it's compatable. If you have the sticker on your LSD you NEED the additive.

Yes, understand that. But has anyone recently used Mobile1 LSD synthetic plus some additive without problems? If so what brand of additive? Because the posts from several years ago said that combination was tried and it didn't work. The prevailing wisdom then was to use regular (non-synthetic) gear oil plus an additive in those units with a sticker. Unless I hear otherwise, I am going to have to drain out the synthetic and use plain oil and an additive.
