Thanks for the write-up guys. Just flipped 30,000 so started searching threads for maintenance items. I've read through a lot of this tread and it seems that there are mixed reviews on using synthetic. The local Advance Auto Parts has Royal Purple Dino for $20.99. Amazon has Royal Purple Synthetic for $17.79 and free shipping. The price difference isn't a big deal and don't mind paying more for the Dino oil if that's better for the truck. What would you do? 2011 Base SR5 4x4 Thx

You can run a good synthetic with no issues in your truck. Only have to worry about it in the '08's and earlier with the LS Diff.

I don't think it should hurt anything, but I would make them re do it.

Dang really? I've got an 08 and filled with full synthetic... So far honestly somehow my gas mileage has improved. Do I need to switch it out and replace the synthetic?

Thanks for the quick response. Will get this done today. Although your "Reps" are full I added to it anyway. Cheers

As long as the diff isn't chattering, you should be fine.

I just changed the oil in the transfer case, started it up and put it into H4, then put it into L4 and the beeper went off, then back into H4 the beeping continued, then into H2 and the beeping still continued and still read in Lo. Finally after going up and down the driveway I stopped and put it into Nuetral and into H2 and it went back to normal. Anybody have any ideas?

    Thanks

This seems like such a simple thing to do.... unless it seems like the fill plug has been welded on at the factory... Not literally, but I could not, for the life of me, get the thing loose... Tried a cheater bar too, no go... I usually don't have that much trouble with simple maintenance but this truck is making me feel less and less mechanically inclined...

So I contacted the local shop I use (not a dealer). I told them I couldn't get the bolt off but already had the gear oil, what would they charge to finish it up? $83.49 for labor using my oil. Suddenly, I became more mechanically inclined and got my hands on an impact wrench and got that bolt off. Turns out the previous owner must have been on top of things, the oil came out pretty clean and there was nothing on the magnet. Anyway, thanks for the write up and saving me $83.49

Should I use the same oil and additive for the first gen non-Trd?

Dun. Thanks for the write up. Front, rear and transfer case all happy playing in royal purple now. Just a little late @ 41k, but nothing to speak of in either diff and the transfer case looked like new oil.

Time to roll out to the Endemion parade.
:woot:  :drunk: in that order for the rest of the day
