Just to update everyone. They pulled out the ecm and it is burned apparently some how it was damaged.

I’m really fucked it feels. So now my best bet is to replace ecm and distributor

I was just about to say that; I found it really odd that the OP insisted something was up with the ECM considering in any normal situation, installation of the distributor should've been looked at again and should've been the issue.

Someone would only insist on going right to the ECM if they knew something went wrong during install.

Shop should own up to the ECM failing and should replace it.

I just don’t understand. Supposed to be a simple install. Replaced distributed then pulls code then replaced clip wire on distributor then starting to misfire.

Shit, the battery was left connected?

I even disconnect it if I replace something as simple as a new headunit.

In all seriousness @Allex95 you ask a ton of shit that can easily be googled (remember your manual hub and suspension questions?) BUT at least you've been doing a lot of your own work thus far.

I'd encourage you to continue working on your own truck, because as you can see, you have a lot of members willing to pour out information to you, even if that information has been posted multiple times.

This way you know what went right and what went wrong, and you learn from it yourself.

Since the cam position sensor is inside the distributor, a broken wire could cause the computer to not get the cam position signal, but that might throw a different code.

I couldn't see exactly where the ECU was burnt in the picture.

I suppose it's possible if it was rewired incorrectly it could damage the ECU, but those wires go to the igniter first, so it would more likely damage that first, say from over voltage.

Yea Ik that’s why I’m not sure why it’s damaged. C7836C5D-0587-4E76-BA35-646D3C4F84F3.jpg
In the middle it’s a slight burn line

Yes, I see that. It would be good to test it with an ohmmeter to see if it burned enough to lose continuity. If that trace leads to a terminal that is related to the distributor then you have more of a case that it's related to the wiring problem you mentioned.

You or they should make sure the wiring is fixed before putting in another ECU so that another one doesn't get damaged.

Is there a possibility it has been like that on the board and the shop is blaming that?

Just a update I’m having the ecm fixed for that burn, and I’m gonna install it and do it right hopefully. With installing the distributor when it says align that gear I don’t see it on the distributor can anyone explain?

Looking at the new distributor it doesn’t have the align mark like my other one? What should I do now then?

Remove valve cover, turn engine to #1 TDC with intake and exhaust valves closed ( not exhaust valves open)
put distributor in with rotor pointing to #1 on distributor cap.
Check with test light. Start engine and set timing with strobe light.

Compare the position of the rotor on your original distributor when the gear and notch are aligned, then set the rotor to point to the same direction and install.

There are not that many teeth on the gear, so if it doesn't work remove the distributor and rotate the rotor slightly one way or the other compared to the previous install and try inserting it again.

Will do. Hopefully when I get the ecm back it goes well. I’m not sure if the burn was actually from this issue or it’s been burned already...

Do you think it’s possible the ecm was already burnt?

You'll never know for sure but it's always best to disconnect battery before working on wiring.
