Changing distributor on 4cyl

I tested the wires on the clip to see for continuity and all good so.

 

So while I wait for the ecm I took the valve cover off for the timing and the crank to 0

 

Another update: so i was able to find a ecm from out in kanas city gonna ship it over and I’m also getting my original one fixed so I have two in case. In the mean time I was installing the distributor took off the valve cover timing was good everything lined up. I heard 1st gen Tacoma ecms don’t need to be flashed?

 

Just start over - top dead center compression stroke #1 cylinder - the distributor is installed pointing at 12 o'clock and naturally turns to the right about an inch and points at #1 spark plug!! After replacing distributor cap during tune up cut the top off the old one so u can actually see if rotor is pointing at #1 spark plug - exactly pointing at it!!

 

97 tacoma 2.4 MT - has 3 connectors at ECU automatic trans has 4 connectors -take cover off and check out the big capacitors - make sure they aren't bulged or leaking - its a common problem with older toyota ECUs !!
