You do realize that Magnaflow, Gibson, Flowmaster, and TRD themselves ALL produced 2.5" tubing exhaust systems for the 2001-2004 3.4L Tacoma right? I'm sure all those companies, engineers, designers, product testers, and Toyota's own in-house performance division are wrong as well. But I'm sure you knew that too.

    My work is done here.

If I was you I would leave the pipe 2.25, Toyota got it right by going with that size

The bigger the exhaust pipe, the less low end torque you will have, also your power band is moved up to higher RPM

This is my experience, when I had my 98 Taco I went with 3" then dropped back to 2.5" and finally ended up putting it back to 2.25"

I am currently running 2.25" with MagnaFlow muffler on my 01 Taco and it`s perfect in my opinion

Many others have stated the same thing in many threads on here

Best of luck, whatever you decide

Those companies are in the biz of making money. You think they use an engineering crew to find out what size pipe is the best for every make/model/motor out there? They just slap on 2.5'' pipe and go with it.

There are a lot of companies out there, like K&N that produce a "CAI" for out trucks and those are proven to have no gains...and they still sell them...no engineering there.

i know you wont do this but just to throw in my exhaust experience...i have no muffler, 2.25 pipe all the way from manifold to the back of my cab, from the back of my cab i have 3" pipe all the way out the back side exit like stock. i have not experience any loss in performance (just going by how my truck feels with my boat going up the biggest bridge in charleston). it has never died off hi revs ( i do rev it some times for effect). What i have noticed is that my city mpg have hit the shitter. my hwy mpgs are exactly the same. soon i will be putting my magnaflow on and replacing seeing how the 3" pipe affects the mpgs...if it does nothing i will be scavaging my old 2.25 and throwing it back up there. Peace

Riiiiggghht. If that was the case than even Scion XBs, TCs, Corollas, RSXs, Civics, and Celicas would all be running the same 2.5" exhaust because the companies would just "slap" them on as you say, but they don't. I'm sure not one of the companies does zero R&D especially TRD whose SOLE purpose in life is Research and Development for Toyota performance, who chose to run and produce a 2.5" exhaust on their test Tacomas. You are absolutely delusional.

And what is stock? I'm running an aftermarket muffler on stock pipes and I'm telling you stock is not either 2.25 or 2.5.

Getting crappy muffler shop crunch/pinch bent pipe in 2.25 will be smaller than stock and flow less.

Somebody get some calipers and measure it.
