Well when I was looking up exhaust I found a couple big threads and chris had done lots of dyno testing and through that said 2.5" was not worth any gains at all...but whatever

I love how the OP hasn't said anything this whole time haha

Haha yeah like I had a chance to get a word in. Guess that's what I get for asking what I thought was a simple question right? :)

In this thread, I've learned so much and nothing at all, at the same time.

    hahaha

but to respond to a guy that believes the stock piping is somewhere in between 2.25" and 2.5", i could see his logic. I have about 3.5 feet of 2.5" piping welded in to fit my kamikaze and it is minutely larger than the stock pipe. If it wasn't new and clean, it'd be tough to tell a real difference. However i'm getting a magnapack and will prob just get the 2.25 inch piping done again the whole way for peace of mind...

The engine doesn't make enough HP stock to take advantage of a 3" exhaust if you don't have a supercharger.

The only thing you'll be wasting is your money.

Your a 2nd gen. Totally different motor. And supercharged a more open exhaust is worth it.

Supercharged, DT headers, TRD Cat back, Water Meth injection, Valve Body upgrade.
I have read this old forum few times before I decided to change the exhaust to 2.5”OD on my 04 prerunner 3.4L (240k miles and counting).
In my case I used to have a supercharger, DT shorty headers(2.5”OD) and TRD catback(2.5”OD) but in between I kept the two cat converters(2.25”OD).
Like a year ago I took the two cats and 4’ of 2.25”OD of the original exhaust left and install a single cat flowmaster 2230125 223 (2.5”inlet/outlet).
So now I’m running a 2.5”OD full exhaust from DT headers to TRD catback but no supercharger.
I really like how it drives...I should have done this years ago when I installed the headers.
Daily driver just street and highways. Better acceleration, better sound, some gas mileage improvement when I’m easy on the pedal.
No check engine light so far.
I just wanted to share my experience with this mod.
One of this days I will install the supercharger back.

Thanks for your response. I think this is what I’m going to do when I install my JBA headers. 2.5” all the way.
