changing out gear oils

    Hello, I'm gonna change out the gear oils in the transfer case, manual transmission, and front and rear differentials and was wondering if it would hurt to use the Royal Purple synthetic stuff. Any advise? thanks

    It's better to use synthetics. I put mobil 1 in mine, royal purple is pretty expensive to do everything.

    Royal purple is actually great oil for gears. I used it in my rear diff. But using any synthetic oil is definitly fine. Royal purple is kind of a rip off if you gunna be using that much.

    go with redline or amsoil oils if you want the best.

    oh and dont do it inside a garage(will smell for weeks)..... the rear and front diff are the worst smelling stuff that comes out of your truck.....

    i made the mistake of doing it inside the garage and every time(for atleat 3 weeks) i went in my garage it was pretty much like wipping that crap on your face

    I don't remember. I only have redline in the manual transmission (redline MT-90). I think I got it at racerparts wholesale or something like that.

    It's normally 14.95 a quart right now. Last time I ordered some (almost a year ago) it was 9.98 per quart with the preferred customer discount, although it's probably gone up by now.

    The AMSoil 75w90 severe gear lube is 50k for "severe service" and 100k for normal service.

    It's high but we can still get it at a cheaper price.

    For gear oil I've heard from people that royal purple isn't that great. They would rather run mobil 1 or redline in their diff.

    Or non synthetic if you ask Currie Enterprise or a lot of performance axle builders
