I am sure this has been beaten to death but I tried searching and didn't really see much on this topic.

I have 108k on my Tacoma. I've been putting in regular 5-30 Castrol GTX every 3k miles since 27k miles (when I bought it). I was thinking about changing to synthetic but I'm worried about how many miles I have with the change. Mobil 1 has a high mileage synthetic for 75k and higher that I was thinking about using too.

Is this a bad idea and I should keep doing what I'm doing or are the risks very minimal?

You'll be fine. I switched over to a synthetic blend at 120k. It won't cause any harm or "create leaks". The misconception is that synthetic oil causes leaks due to the fact that several years ago they would place a lot of wear on the seals. This has been improved and is a thing of the past. However, IF there are any leaks, synthetic will show them. It is okay to make the switch, but if a leak appears, you may want to switch to a synthetic blend. I hope this helps!

Man up and do it.... stop being a girly girl...

    Just playing.

You'll be fine with the switch, although you probably should have switched when you bought the truck.

I believe most synthetics have better cleaning abilities too, so if you have a small leak that has been plugged with sludge, it's *possible* the synthetic will clean it away exposing the leak (very unlikely though).

It reminds me of the folks that say changing tranny fluid will make it start slipping... well yeah it'll start slipping if the only thing making it work was grit and clutch debris. If that's the case it was close to failing anyways.

I switched to synthetic at 120,000 miles, no problem at all. Before that I was running conventional at 5,000-mile intervals. Since you've been doing 3000-mile intervals (too short IMO) I have serious doubts about any buildup in your engine, it's probably cleaner than most. Make the switch.
