I currently have what ever comes on a 07 trd offroad truck and was looking for something slightly louder than stock...I hate loud exhausts!

Does anyone have any sound clips of using a trd muffler on the factory system? I can't find any.

    Thanks

I don't think you actually looked.
    There's a bunch on youtube.
    Here's a nice one. :)

The TRD is really mellow and not the least bit obnoxious.

I have an 18 inch magnaflow. Sounds around the same as a trd cat back. If you get maybe a 22" it would probably be what you're looking for

That's also on a 2.7. It's weird because my friend has a 4 banger and his truck is super loud with the same muffler I have on mine. But mine is a whole lot quieter

I installed the TRD cat back and it gave it a little extra sound. Later I cut the chrome tip off (exhaust chop for wheeling) and turns out the tip is where most of the noise was being generated from.

I've heard TRD, Magnaflows, Flowmasters all in person and none of them are very loud at all. They all have that deep throaty sound to them until you gas it then they can get a little loud but nothing like those cheesy rice rockets. I have a Flowmaster 50 series American Thunder on mine and I love it!!

Where are you going to get just the TRD muffler? Have you found a used one someone cut off, as you can't buy just the TRD muffler.

I had a Magnaflow and hated it...it had horrible drone. I'm actually installing a TRD tomorrow, so I'll let you know what I think.

    LOL. Just the tip.

OP. I like the sound of the TRD cat back. Not sure if you can get just the muffler to weld in, if that's what you want. Keep an eye out for a used one if you want just the muffler maybe. Then you can sell the tip to hrspwr236 :notsure:

Sound clip for the OP? Sounds like that's exactly what he wants to hear...

If you go ahead and put it on, you'll be the first I've heard to hang the TRD muffler off the stock pipes. I would think the sound would be very close to the same, but your stock pipes are 2.25, while the TRD catback is 2.5.

Also, isn't the TRD muffler center in/out, while the stock pipes are center/offest.

So just to update this thread - my TRD exhaust was installed yesterday. Honestly, it's WAY more noticeable than I was expecting from reading on here. I know that it will break in some, and it already has, thankfully, but it's definitely louder than OEM. I don't have the OEM exhaust anymore, so it's staying on. I did it because my OEM exhaust was damaged in an accident and I got the TRD for the same price as the OEM from Toyota. I figured it was worth it to upgrade, and might make the truck a little more marketable when I sell it.

Bottom line, I wouldn't do it again. It's livable, and at certain times sounds good, but at 1200-1800 RPM it has a slight drone and sounds like crap, which is where I spend a good portion of my driving. Hopefully this lightens up a bit when the exhaust breaks in. This is my 2nd exhaust on my Tacoma, and I think the end result is I don't like this 4.0 exhaust note, at all. Sounds way too ricer.

Exhaust note is totally subjective. Acceptable to one, is unacceptable to another. As a supporting point, I tried a TRD several years ago and came to the same conclusion, didn't like the drone at that rpm range, and the low rpm sound was just too ricey for me. IMO

FYI, for you and any possible future updates, I removed my TRD, went back to stock, then had a Magnaflow drop-in welded in. I thought it to had a slight drone at that same rpm range, so a few months later replaced the Magnaflow with a Borla. Less drone, but it's still there, but is now acceptable to me.
