Charging spot

Anyone have iPhone 7plus and can the charging spot in the Tacoma be used? I have new phone and truck and was wondering if its compatible?

 

I don't believe the iphone 7 has Qi wireless charging by itself. in order to use Qi, which is what your Tacoma has, you will need to purchase an aftermarket phone case that offers this feature.

I think mophie has a good Qi charging case for the iphone 7

 

Samsung offers QI wireless, but iphone does not. As stated you can get a case, but not sure how well they work. May be better to just use a cord. My Note 4 does not have qi, but I got a kit that goes on the battery (battery is removable) and it worked fairly well.

 

The Qi charger is shit slow anyways. I use it with my Samsung Galaxy S6 and it triggers the charger, but it drains more than it charges....

 

I just keep a 12v to USB adapter (2.1A) in the center console with a Lightning cable coming out the opening in the front and take the extra 5 seconds to plug it in if my phone is low. Guaranteed to work and will charge at full speed instead of the slow QI speeds. Plus no iOS devices natively support it. Many Samsung phones have it along with LG and some of the Nokias. But as stated, even if it does support it, it's rather slow anyway. Kind of a useless feature for most of us.

There's also the USB port connected to the head unit but I'll take a bet that it only puts out .5A as a standard USB 2.0 port would provide. Great for the old iPod I have plugged in there via 30pin to USB but not a lot more than that. It'll still charge, just not as fast as a good 12V plug will.
