Hurricane Creek like richland is an unmaintained road except by land owners it was once by the county but because development isn't anymore. A lot of the road has easement rights to the property owners for people to travel. But if there is "abuse" in it's use they can easily petition the county and have it shut down since there is other routes to get to the other end of the road. There are a lot more of these roads up in NH, VT, ME. Like you all have said the more that people use it and big groups go the more the land owners will shut it down. I'd blame less the jeeper crowd on this and more the overland crowd and the huge groups they take. Jeep guys are not as prone to go to places like this. This is what organizations like SFWA tries to promote good stewardship. Y'all can hate the jeeper crowd but I see more of the jeep clubs and groups doing organized clean ups at URE than the overlanders.

It seems everyone thinks you need to drive like a rock bouncer to get up anything. It's amazing how many people I have wheeled with that leave their shitty, bald, ATs at 50psi and sit there flooring it on an obstacle for what seems like an hour. When you tell them to air down, they tell you "then I'll blow a bead and have too much weight in the bed and it will ride rough". Meanwhile they have an RTT, multiple Jerry cans, all their camp supplies and another 1klbs of useless stuff in the bed. Take all that out, you are in an offroad park, or will be going home at the end of the day, leave that crap at home or back 1/4mile at camp. Get some MTs and air down if you want to wheel anywhere outside of moab or sand hollow UT.

    Sorry overlander rant off.

The buggy guys are annoying to, with 900hp standing on it on any ledge. If anyone has ever been to mason jar in Harlan KY, I did that in an IFS tacoma on 33s with one locker in 2008, now it looks like a bombed out waste land. Sad. I'm still going to try it next time I'm there...

Yep, land owners get pissed at the droves of Jeeps and overlanders tearing up the road that they pay to upkeep.

Extender is only $60 bucks at Harbor Freight.

After having the Outback, I see why it’s so popular. Carries all the gear you need and still plenty maneuverable. I did 5 miles with the wife in the cargo area and it was a breeze. PA has its place but it’s soooo big, honestly seems like it would be tough for one person to handle.

And caught my first fish (out of a kayak).

You already at the new house? Nice!!! How'd you feel about that 5 miles especially with more than a typical fishing trip weight in there. Did you let wifey peddle any? Hobie does have some more touring style peddle yaks then she could just tag along :boink:

No we close in exactly a month, just wanted to check out the new cove, put in at Copperhead Island and went up the lake to the new place to fish.

I felt great, felt like the Hobie was super efficient, especially with the Turbo fins. But remember I ride bikes a lot so I might have a little advantage over most people when it comes to pedaling. But I also really like how shallow I was able to go, can do that on a prop-type pedal drive

we may get her a Compass or something down the road

The bike thing is a big advantage as well as the fins. But now that the patent is up or has been sold or something they are being used on other brands too because they are so much better than the prop drive ones. Does your drive have the reverse feature. If you paddle correctly you use your whole body also not just your arms the guys that tire easily paddling are the ones solely using their arms. All those little fingers by your place man so nice to be able to just take your time and slowly pick apart the area. I think that's one of the biggest advantages to yak fishing is it forces you to slow down and really pick apart an area and learn the fish.

Yep the patent expired a year or two ago, but I think Hobie still does it best. Especially with the new 180(with reverse, the one I have) and 360 drives.

I’ve pretty much just pond fished my whole life so this is a new thing for me. And have not hardly fished at all in the five years since we moved to Charlotte. Excited to get back into it.

I stopped fishing for years after my gramps passed then got back into it the past few years again and now getting the kiddo into it. It definitely feels good. I would agree on the hobie knowing how to do the fins the best because they have had so many more years to put little tweaks and such to it to make it better. I haven't heard of the 360 drives.

I was just thinking about this as this goes across lines with offroading/overlanding too. Is why do people call their vehicles, yaks, boats rigs or boat terms sleds. I mean where did that come from.

I've narrowed it down to a 1st gen Sequoia or a 470. Once I get it up to reliable DD status, I'll sell the 5th gen. F-150 and it will split daily detail.
