My dad just had the interior redone in that Glastron bow rider in the first pic. The plywood floor and a couple stringers needed replacing, too. That was its first time in the water since the new interior and we almost sank it, the transom seal was leaking

this! Pontoons used to be so basic, you still see a lot of older ones on the water

That glastron I was talking about has a Merc 4.3 and has only had regular maintenance. It’s a ‘99 and still runs perfect, though it doesn’t have an hour meter.

I use to work for Genmar. They owned Glastron/Larson, Wellcraft, Triumph, Ranger, and a few others. I worked for them at the time your boat was built and had a few trips up to the factory. My favorite was getting to go to Sarasota and the Wellcraft plant. I "built" boats for 3 yrs there it was a hell of a lot of fun. Probably the best job I had.

Every pontoon boat seems low to me, I grew up with three boats. I borrowed a buddy of mines pontoon with a 250 and thought it was slow haha.

    Any opinion on Yamaha/Honda/Merc?

Merc! Yamaha! Honda meh. Or go crazy and get he new Zuk twin counter rotating prop 350hp  They did a lot of cool shit with that one.

UPS marine knows how to get some power out of the higher HP mercs with tunes and stuff.

Personally I have owned a Johnson/Evinrude, couple of mercs, and one Yammy. The merc was by far my favorite power to rate ratio lower end TQ etc. Now those engines were nothing like all the new stuff.

Like Skip said, Merc or Yamaha. We’ve had two sets of Yamaha wave runners too that are good. I think we put around 480 hours on the old ones.

‘Toons are typically slow, they’re built for cruising. A triple toon rides better especially with more power.

Getting a triple for sure, smoother for the baby. Right now I’m leaning towards a 20’, which is a little smaller, TriToon with a 150HP

FWIW, Starcraft is a good brand to consider. My dad doesn’t just go and buy something that looks cool. My mom pressured him for a long time but he researched for about two years and bought his at the boat show.

I’ll look into them too. A big thing is having a local dealer. Not planning to buy a trailer so I want to be able to get local service.

You really will need the dealer or marine service company that has certified techs for the engine more than anything. The "boat" end rarely has work that needs done for warranty. It's typically the engine side. Or electronics that die like your GPS devices. Dealers for the boats will typically require you to "bring" it in for service if there is an issue with the boat side.
Smoother for the baby man we are getting soft with our kids
Cruising along she was 2 at the time. Not the smoothest ride :anonymous: Wish I could find the pics of her at this age riding in the front of the rib boat doing 40 bouncing all over. She loves riding in that one. Since it's so small and fast we can get air in it pretty easy. I need to reprop it and give it some more low end.
