That's a cool idea, could even season it like a cast iron skillet.

Hey Tony, hope things are well.

I am in S. Charlotte. Anyway I had a question about the cat6. Do you mind telling me what you are running it for? My house was built in ‘02 but does not have the cat5. I had wind stream out to upgrade my speed but couldn’t since I only have basic phone lines and cable. I have been thinking of running a cat5 cable, but never heard of 6. I am tech deficient in this crap. Is 6 the new 5?

Thank and hope you’re doing ok

CAT 5/6 are the same form factor with the same RJ45 connector on each end. 5 is rated for 1 gig per second and 6 is rated for 10 gigs per second. Both are overkill unless you have 1 gig symmetrical fiber installed in your house.
I would recommend looking into a good mesh WIFI system. I personally love UniFi by Ubiquity.

I have spectrum cable, it's nothing fast (I pay for their lowest tier). I have wifi in the house but I'm in IT, I'm anal, and I want things to be as efficient as possible.

I am using cat5/cat6 to drop to certain areas to get full speed (from the router) to high priority devices without the degradation and latency of wifi. In this case, I was dropping cat5/6 into bedrooms for my TV's.

I would think any cable service could offer you at least 100down/10up service, which is efficient enough to do 4k across whatever for the most part.

If you're unhappy with your current speeds, DM me. I can help you out. Could be a huge number of factors.

@Disco_Inferno_ all Ubiquiti stuff here. UDM, Wifi6 AP's, POE switches, etc.

@aturk I am in IT too. I probably put up with less than optimal performance at home because I am so done with tech at the end of the day!

I was lazy and ran my drops a year ago for AP's but never finished it. Was relying on a few Beacon HD's (the mesh ones you plug into an outlet) to get me by, but you lose 50% right off the bat vs an AP. Work was slow, I was bored, and I spent some money on the new Wifi 6 - Lite AP's. Should have the new config finished up tomorrow.

Wait. You camp while overlanding? I just drive down to the local Starbucks for my overlanding. I live in SC so the roads suck and justify the Kings.
