Last time I was out there there was a guy camping in a mid 90's Geo Metro. I had to jump start him on the way out but he had no trouble on the road due to his mastery of the skinny pedal. The way he was hitting those hills would have made @ovrlndkull proud

I payed around $1100-1200 IIRC (no lockers). I dropped my front diff off at ECGS and they regeared it with the CV bushing for $500-600 parts and labor, no shipping or core exchange. Then I ordered the rear diff parts (gears and master install kit) and gave them and the diff to a friend, who gave it to a buddy that set it up for $120.

This is why I've decided 4.56 if I ever regear. If we were talking a few hundred, I might prefer to do it incrementally and go to a 4.10 to see if that was the sweet spot. But for $2600, I'm gonna go a little further away from stock so that I can really notice a difference.

Fair warning though, I've read that any regear can increase driveline vibes due to the rate at which the driveshaft spins.

Kind of apples to oranges but I'm on paper way over geared (v6 5pd 5.29s and 37s) but I love it. I can actually accelerate on the highway in 5th and my fuel mileage went up. People sometimes forget a big factor in fuel milage is throttle position, so if you are at a lower rpm but it's floored you will be sucking down more fuel vs a higher rpm but less than half throttle at the same speed let's say. Add in the 1000 extra lbs of useless overland crap people bolt on their trucks to look cool at the mall, being geared lower than stock makes a lot of sense. I never understood paying for a gear swap after only going up a tire or two to get it back to stock, go a bit lower to account for weight and the inevitable larger tire you will buy in a few years down the road.

    Just my opinion and thoughts.

FYI I parked next to a PRO at work today and slipped and fell in a puddle of my own jizz and broke my phone so I was not able to get a pic.

    I think only the 2.7 came with 4.10. Mine is A04B so 8”, 3.73, E-Locker.

I don't know if that is correct about throttle position on a drive by wire system but I dont know enough about it to dispute you. :rofl:Seems like RPM would be really the only factor determining gas consumption unless somehow the fuel-air ratio changes significantly changes when throttle is open but RPM is still low? And for me (manual) that would just be chugging the engine? Can you explain this better?

I totally agree about the weight though, I think too many forget these are small trucks. Many are rolling around over GVRW before you even put a passenger or a skottle in the truck.

low rpm with lots of throttle = dumping fuel

I don’t have my laptop open to screenshot a stock Tacoma afr table but here is a quick example I can find

Interesting. So that does change the Air to Fuel ratio? Now that I think about it, I guess it makes sense. the computer will constantly vary and optimize the air to fuel ratio depending on RPM and load.

Just called ECGS and quoted $2610 installed. Also recommended 4.30s.

Yes it will change the afr depending on load and rpm.

i wish 4.10 were available for the 8.2 rear end. ECGS says only 4.56 or 4.88 are my options. I’ll just stick with the stock 3.90 I reckon. 4.56 is too much with only 34’s.
