I did it to my truck. The purpose for me was to be able to pull off of the headache bar. Also need to be able to put the ATV in the back. It still needs to be polished, work in progress. Bolted using the bed bolts. So far I pulled a 700# log into the bed to go to the saw mill240E9F91-B854-4850-88E6-AE53884499C8.jpg758147F7-FBF0-4B7F-B3F5-E3E642301D2A.jpg

A lot of guys here have Backracks, and I admit they look good. But what made me not choose them is how to best facilitate the reason you mention... keeping crap in the bed from coming through the rear window in a situation. I didn't like how Backracks are only bolted at the base to the mounting brackets. The Apex rack is welded to the brackets and has welded triangulating bars for additional rigidity which makes it ideal for me for its other purpose, hauling lumber or ladders.

To return to the OP's question about chase racks for presumably mounting lights, forward-aimed or rearward-aimed lights could easily enough be mounted.

I'm thinking of modeling one up in SolidWorks and having a local fabricator make one.
Not for rollover protection, but for looks and to replace one of the redneck lookin' PVC bows when I turn the bed into a tent with a tarp.
