I'm hoping so. It makes since to me now why I didn't really see/feel any change when I added the header.... my intake was very restricted.

The spray patter. Will be way more efficient on those compared to the old browns

I got it all back together and truck started up and sounded great. I smelt fuel and discovered #3 injector pouring fuel out between the rail and the top of the injector. Pulled the air intake and TB back off and pulled the fuel rail to discover a bad O-ring. In fact, all of the Orings were .070 thick while the original Orings that came off my old injectors are .078" think. I swapped all of the old ones over to the new injectors and put the rail back on. Unfortunately, I broke the TB gasket when I removed the TB this time. I've already called Oriellys and they will have another gasket between 8-10am. So, that's it for tonight. Man it was great to hear it fire up and run. :)

That’s awesome. I’ll glad you got it mostly back back together. I’m anxious to hear of your pinging is gone!

I noticed my truck now starts up way easier now doing the same intake cleaning

I got it all back together(for the 2nd time) and fired it up. Sounded good but a first inspection shows at least 3 injectors leaking between the top of the injector and the fuel rails. This was with the old o-rings. I'm a bit surprised and now thinking there is a problem with the injectors. Off to the part store again to get new o-rings. Back home and a bit or research and this time I installed the injectors with a super light coat of dielectric grease(I used gas previously). I suspect that without proper lube, the o-rings were rolling out of the groove and leaking. Then for the 3rd time, I meticulously put everything back together. Fired her up and all is great. Truck is definitely smoother, starts quicker and even idles quieter(its always been pretty smoother but its actually quieter). A quick test drive reveals No Pinging. Under no circumstances was I able to get it to ping.

I'll know for certain when I take a longer drive but the truck was warmed up for my test drive and I nearly certain that I'm finally a success.

Here's two celebratory pictures of it all back together and of the pink tops. In the end, it was the intake buildup or the injectors. I'm super curious to see what kind of mileage I get now.

Yep, he's a very knowledgeable guy.

BIG thanks to him and several others for talking with me through this over the the past 6 months. I've learned an enormous amount about troubleshooting the EGR system, bought some cool tools(vac hand pump, service manuals) and I've gained a good bit of knowledge that will help me and others in the future.

After reading through all of this I'm hoping to switch to pink tops and clean out my intake runners once I have a driveway/garage again. Thanks for documenting everything!

These worked well for me and I believe they are not fakes: http://www.ebay.com/itm/4x-Genuine-...ma-4Runner-2-4-2-7L-23250-75080-/232156188790

I don't know if the China ones are crap or not but I just wanted OEM and some of the Ebay listings are China if you read the listing carefully.

It's amazing, my truck starts up on the first turnover now(sometimes 2). Before, it would have to turn over 3-5 times before it fired.

It's official, the pinging is GONE. :burnrubber:

Hmmm. Mines a 3-5 cranker right now. Might need to look into this.

After driving mine for a bit more, it definitely starts quicker but only starts on first crank about 10-20% of the time. 2-3 cycles is prabably average.
