dude hate to tell you, but if you hit something hard enough to tweak the FRAME, i'm pretty sure you would have been f*cked regardless of which brand bumper you were running.

    lol i can respect that.

I had it on my tacoma before i sold it. you definitely pay for the quality, but i bashed it on some trees / rocks and never had an issue besides scrapes and small dents in the thin steel of the bumper itself

If it was a hit on the stock bumper, the built in crumple zone would have kept the frame from taking all that kinetic energy. It doesn't look nearly as cool though, so...

in this context, the discussion is around aftermarket bumpers and how this bumper compares - not stock vs aftermarket.

also, you have no way of knowing if the stock bumper would have simply absorbed the impact. any impact strong enough to tweak the frame likely would have done so regardless. i've hit trees and rocks offroad pretty hard with both stock and aftermarket bumpers, and never tweaked the the frame. must've been a big hit.

so i'll repeat myself - but this time directed at you and your comment about the stock bumper:

dude hate to tell you, but if you hit something hard enough to tweak the FRAME, i'm pretty sure you would have been f*cked regardless of which brand bumper you were running.

Correct! I should point out that my frame IS tweaked at the crumple zone. Ever so slightly, but the dramatic wings of this fine bumper specimen exaggerate the issue quite well.

Please re-quote me where I said "all that kinetic energy" vs "you would have been unscathed entirely neener neener fuck you and your aftermarket bumper" -- I understand the point of this thread, but your statement is just as grey as mine. If you took offense to what I put out there, please re-read it in the tone of someone just throwing out some additional info about why bypassing the OEM bumper is always a gamble - sure we all know it, but sometimes there's one person reading a thread, who has no idea. Those kinds of posts are useful to them, if not you.

Thanks, I'll go back to just reading this thread, like I have for the last year or so.

i'm not offended in the slightest, and you shouldn't be either. just carrying on the discussion. please don't take what i'm saying personally. if i came off as an asshole, it wasn't my intention

my point was, and remains - if you are hitting something hard enough to tweak the frame, you were going to tweak the frame regardless of aftermarket brand, stock, etc.

Nick said he's not a fan of the bumper any more because it tweaked his truck. i just don't think you can put that on the bumper. (but it is definitely a cheapo knockoff chinese bumper, so there are plenty of other things to dislike about it)

Dear new reader or on-the-fence person,

    My advice;

    1) Buy the ebay bumper for looks and mild offroading (read as: "fire service roads" and granny's driveway), or if you don't wanna drop $1k+ for a few bucks worth of steel. The powder coat that's used leaves a LOT to be desired. Fitment is a pain from my experience and one other person's. The holes usually don't align 100% for all of them and these get shipped wrapped in bubble wrap and cardboard, they bend easily during shipping.

    2) Don't buy this bumper, save double what it costs and get a better-made bumper from one of the vendors on here. Don't bother getting it powder coated because you're going to scratch that glorified spray paint to hell an back on rocks and trees! Get a handful of rattle cans of good metal primer, your favorite flavor of color, and some acetone/mineral spirits/whatever other great smelling fish-killing solution you like.

Or DIY if you've got a welder and the knowledge, or buy a WIY kit from the vendors that offer it.

I agree with you, it's not just THIS BUMPER, it's any possible combination of bumpers and horns. You have agreement from me there, easily.

I just have nothing better to add, which is why I've been reading it and not adding to it, it's not you, I swear.

I feel that if the lower part of the bumper had more testicular fortitude and structural integrity, it wouldn't have bent any at all. But instead pull the shitty OEM frame horns off the end of the frame

-like that's really a better outcome than what I've got right now

Oh no! It definitely is just this bumper! It's extra shitty, but we get what we pay for and I fell for the trap hard!

"Dog water" even, as my stepson says now. WTF does that even mean! haha!

A3340125-12D8-4C10-85FD-BFEC98A9AA6D.jpg Got the “DV8” tacoma ebay bumper installed on my GX470. Direct bolt on, fender flare cutting, and AC line altering was all that was needed. Ordered 3/18 and received 3/23

When these bumper where ~$500 delivered, the quality matched the cost. Particularly for looks and mild use. Mine is going on five years now (Oct'16), but has seen very little off road.
Now that they are $750(+) I would save a little more and get a reputable brand.

I disagree. If you keep your eye on the DV8 and wait for a sale(got mine at $850 shipped) they are well worth the money. Other brands are WAY over priced in my opinion and my DV8 has seen some extreme offroad use. I have winched out of some serious terrain and also winched up a mini van that slid down a hillside. The quality is comparable to the bumpers priced at around 2 grand, ridiculous price for some welded plate steel! Get the DV8, unless you have money to waste.

The new ones have the ac notch already, no cutting or modifications needed. I've got the three piece, the fit was perfect, bolted right up, stout bumper, good quality

I had the three piece on my truck too. Good enough for me. Wheeled it and bumped it on trees and rocks, never had an issue. I like the one piece design more, and it's probably more rigid - but the modularity of the 3 piece is cool. ie. if you were to bash something and dent one "wing" you could just replace it.
