My buddy recently purchased a 2010 taco with 285's and a spacer lift. Right now the 285's are only rubbing on the UCA's. He doesnt have alot of money to fix it right so im putting a feeler out there to see what the cheapest real fix is.

Initially i thought spacers but I afraid that it will push the tire out and it will start rubbing on the cab mount. Will just new UCA's aloe fix it? or will he need to ultimately get new wheels with a different offset and backspacing and then even still a CMC? Like I said, he doesnt have much money for this so the cheaper option the better.

Cheapest fix would be to remove the lift or drop down to a 265/75 (tires aren't really cheap) If he wants to retain the lift and tire size, the cheapest fix would be Uca's. Best price on spc uca's will be on headstrong off road

Cheapest fix would be trading tires with someone who has 265s

So changing the UCA's alone will fix the problem? How does they change the angle or spacing enough to do that without spacers too or different wheels?

Depends on the offset of the wheels but 285 will rub either the UCA, the fender, or the frame. If you want to make them fit you need wheels with the proper backspacing (4.5ish) and a cab mount chop. May have to beat the pinch welds and reshape the fender liner some too.

The cheapest option is to trade someone else for tires. 265 or 255 tires won't rub the UCA anymore. Have him put out a craigslist ad or an ad on here and see what happens.

EDIT: I see you're in VA. Which part?

So he has the stock wheels on the truck which should be around the proper fitment right? So beyond that new UCA's and a CMC?

Haha I dont think there is a person on this site that currently has 285 and wants to downsize, we all just find a way to make it work... But he may end up having to do that. Im just trying to take him a few of the best cheapest options and let him choose.

Im currently in Lynchburg VA. you?

Stock wheels are not the proper backspacing. The sport wheels are 5.5" and the Off-road wheels are 5.25"

So in reality he can get a used set of wheel for the same price or cheaper than a set of TC UCA's. If he gets a new set of wheels and pushes off of the UCA you think he will start rubbing somewhere else unless he gets a CMC as well?

Yes, it'll likely rub somewhere else. Depending on how much of a lift he's running UCAs might be necessary to get a proper alignment anyways. SPC UCA's are some of the most budget friendly while still being well made.

Really, he should go down to 265s until he has the funds to sort out the suspension (ditch the spacer lift) and either get wheel spacers or new wheels.

Ahh that sucks! and im asking about this because he is new to tacomas and I want present him with some options. He bought the truck with the spacer lift and 285's so i dont think he will love the idea of taking it almost back to stock, and I guess I wont blame him. So to make the truck run right with the 285's he needs new wheels, CMC, and a UCA's? i agree, i havent personally seen his UCA's but with a spacer lift and 285's they are probably raked pretty good. Total cost in the ball park of 1500 ish?

Wheel spacers would probably be a temp fix but the rubbing will move from the UCA to somewhere else. He rubbing may only be a problem when flexed or backing up.

Did he not check the vehicle out prior to purchase?

I didn't ask because obviously he didn't or he thought it would be a simple fix. In the mean time I may just tell him to get spidertrax and CMC. For the most part he doesn't wheel just general driving through a field or two during hunting season. That should get him through the absolute cheapest way.

The same shit everyone else has.
Cheapest option would be order a set of custom made spacers in the thickness needed to clear the UCAs. There are companies out there who can make them any thickness you want.

Yeah, my worry, and the worry of some other members is that if he clears the UCA's then he will start rubbing somewhere else.

spidertrax are 1.25 which will cause him to rub the cab mount for sure. Do it in a couple of stages, start with BORA .75" wheel spacers and if he doesn't rub the cab mount you're done. If he does, CMC might fix that. If not, wheels with the proper offset and UCAs are in order. My suggestion: light racing. Total chaos would be a waste of money on a spacer lift.
