What makes that "right"? Both are strong and neither do permanent damage, you're paying a bunch more for one feature. Sliders don't need to be fancy to save your ass. No matter what anyone says, they don't change the value, can't even tell they've been cut off if you decide to later on and if it is a lease you shouldn't ever need sliders.

I've heard some issues with weld-ons, specifically it can be considered frame damage. Don't know how true it is. Maybe a state thing or insurance thing.

I'd be interested to see one instance of that. Any links? The shear and tensile strength of bolts used in bolt ons would allow the same damage in a crash.

I was talking to a shop. They won't do weld on not because of a strength issue but mere modification to frame classifies the vehicle as having frame damage.

Sounds more like he doesn't want to be responsible (especially in a lawsuit) for anything that crops up after he does the work, related or not. But I'd like to see state legislation that proves me wrong, what state? I know some states won't let you patch a frame in critical areas but addition of material is not covered in those.

Sounds like the most likely reason. I tried googling some stuff but never found anything.

Sorry.. I didn’t even think twice to even think about his location. When he asked about great solid sliders I just thought of @Shmellmopwho lol

The heat from welding can alter the structural integrity of the frame. A lot of it has to do with the skill level of the welder, of course. I don't know enough about welding, but all I need to know is that a lawyer could make a pretty solid argument around it. Bolt on for me.

You aren't gonna beat 4x innovations. We have several trucks in our group running them and they are solid. Find a buddy to weld them, rattle can them yourself (don't ever pay to get sliders powder coated unless you're a mall queen IMO) and you're done for under 500 easy.

4xinnovations has theirs $280 shipped, but you will have to weld the legs, but you are able to customize the length and angle of your sliders too. I got mine at a slight angle and they come out enough to where they're used as a set as well.

Yup running them right now. The only complaint I had was that they didnt ship out with gussets but we just fabbed some up with left over metal laying around.

Thanks for the replies guys now I have to consider sliders vs skid plates :p

I'll have to double check California law on frame modification.

While you're at it, cut off your cats, remove smog cans, that pointless screen in the air box, and any other compliant crap :D

Gotta put a lot of heat into it to achieve that, someone with little to no MIG welding experience could maybe do this if they just absolutely didn't pay attention. But done properly (stitched in segments) you won't put enough heat in it to alter the treating.
