Cheap Radiator Comparison & Radiator Horror Stories

Trail fix a rad? How likely are you to need to do that?

 

Any company out there that makes a bigger capacity all aluminum radiator for our 1st gens?

Nope unless you want to custom fit one.

 

Rock Auto has a denso radiator (oem) for 77 bucks.

 

Mine wasn't as muddy, and luckily want the radiator, but an explosion from the fan. I'll try and find some pics.

 

Some moron piled branches in the ruts to try and get out. Had to rock back and forth struggling for traction. One branch went up above the front diff and somehow missed the fan and right through. Had to get towed out and sent a buddy to the parts store 39 mins before close on a Sunday.

So anyone have any experience with the lifetime guarantee with pep boys? I'm really considering $120 for theirs over the $75 Rockauto simply because I could get another one quickly if I ever needed one unless their guarantee is full of loopholes. Again this is for a backup so it's not like it's life or death on this one.

 

Its a radiator. They are a consumable part and not hard to replace.
Toss in a new one every 100k and don't worry about it. You change the coolant as well and you don't have to waste time with a flush.

I think the replacement guarantee would be wasted. Most of mine die from blunt force trauma. No warranty is gonna cover the replacement.

 

I seldom agree with this guy, but he speaks the truth. In my experience, I've never bought oem radiators and never regretted it.

 

yea, plastic. I don't trust any plastic used 10 years with heat. Consumable.

That said, my aftermarket has I think, 13 years on it. It comes out next change of coolant. Shows checking on bottom tank.

His son crashed his truck and he's selling off the parts they didn't need to replace but billed insurance for anyway, his AC condenser I got from him works good so far just put like 250 miles of running AC this weekend, see what happens in the long run with my condenser, I got a Toyota headlight as well in good condition, this radiator is from a 4cylinder if that makes any difference

 

Are their different radiators for different Tacoma engines?
