I purchased the Carista ODB module from Amazon ($40), and installed the Carista app, it's $20 to change stuff. I turned off the seatbelt chime and adjusted the turn signal tap to 6 flashes. Works perfectly with the 2016 Tacomas. Super easy and it's worth the $60 as you can check faults and customize alot of stuff.

Do you know if there is a way to disable the seatbelt chime without voiding the warranty?

Mentioned this a week ago, also warranty wise they will disable the chime for the seatbelt at the dealership with enough begging. If you're worried just re-enable it. Sigh.

seems pretty cool. the only thing I'd like to adjust is the blinker-tap from
3 flashes to 6, I like that feature.

I did this myself, then was annoyed with how long 6 was so just backed it off to 4 when taking those screenshots for everyone this morning.

Does anyone know if the Carista app work with generic OBD scanners on the 2016? I have a generic one I bought around 3 years ago that communicates just fine with the Torque app (another great product, BTW) on my Android phone.

Hoping it will, would be nice to be able to tweak some setting w/o having to buy another OBDII adaptor.

A check of their website says it may work with generic devices as long as they are ELM327 v1.4 (or newer)...It wont work with the v1.3, or some of the cheap Chinese ones.
So maybe a better question is, does anyone know how to check what version an OBDII device is running?

    Thanks

No hurt in trying. there are a few "free" things you can change, see if it works :) Basically if you connect your phone to the BT OBD adapter, hit the "customize" option, if it pairs and runs through it's diagnostics, then it should work I would bet.

Sorry for my ignorance, but is this fundamentally inferiour to the TechStream method of changing the Tacoma's settings?

    Thanks...................... Frank

It's a software solution... I think it's pretty much the same thing honestly. Changing 0's and 1's.

Just set the blinkers to 6 and the Seatbelt ding off and a few other settings....Well worth $20. Beta Version will reset TPMS. But we already have that,

I already had a cheap ELM I was using with Torque in the MX5. I decided the ScanGauge II was a better fit for the Mazda.

ELM worked fine. Actually I had two of them purchased from AliExpress. One would not sync.

If One does not mind waiting 4-6 weeks for stuff AliExpress is phenomenal.

I normally used Torque Pro OBD. Which works. I have an old Galaxy Note I like to use for these things,

Yeah i know, but i wanted to use the one they sell because its less of a hassle and automatically connects. Didnt want to waste time with one that might not work
