I've had musclecars from the 60's, a couple of newer mustangs, and rode in some quick imports. All impressive, the newer stuff way faster than the my old days.
But when I drive my brother's ZR-1 vette, wow.
If I only had the money...

I'm not saying it's not fast. I bet the new mustang will beat the SS camaro, but I don't see how a heavier car with less power will beat a lighter car with more power and better aerodynamics.

The answer is that it probably doesn't have less power in reality.

Ford rates the new 5.0L as 412 horsepower at the shaft....early dynos have turned up over 400hp at the wheels. Stock, NA. Word around the camp fire is that the power ratings for the new 5.0 are very very conservative.

And isn't a stock z06 rated at 505. I don't think a force induction mustang would beat my friends corvette with none.

Edit: looked it up. Stock C5 Z06 is rated 405 HP. At the crank. See here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Corvette_C5_Z06#LS6_engine

I redact what I posted below regarding Gen 5 Corvettes, and am now even more excited for this new 5.0.

The original post still stands for Gen 6 Vettes:

Maybe if the new mustang is that good. I have a friend with an 08 Shelby gt with whipple and it runs high 12's and my friends vette runs 11.1 on just motor and 10.2 with a 100 shot(?). I'm curious to see how good the new mustang is when it's out and has some perfomance mods on it.
