You are correct on this EPA issue. What throws me is that some vehicles are made in other countries who could care less about pollution and laugh at the extremes the US goes through.

Overall paint costs money so if they can skimp on material they will.

We all wish we had paint jobs of the past from any car maker.

Left or right they are all in it for themselves, their own insurance, set their own salary, it just goes on and on. Unions and the NRA also have bloat at the top lining their pockets, this is Merica at its finest.

I noticed the same thing too. I owned a 95 Nissan Hardbody truck and the paint was rock hard. Rarely did I get a chip or scratch. Something has changed in paint process. My guess is the paint is now water based. My parents have a Kia van with clear coat failure. It's an 08 or 09.

I don't believe anybody said fuck toyota. The guy made an observation about his vehicle.

And when did I say anything about liking a gm product? Seriously, I'd like a quote.

Intelligent people can have a conversation about the worries of their vehicles without it turning into a ridiculous politcal topic.

I love my tacoma, and I believe it to be one of the best quality trucks out there. However, that's doesn't mean it doesn't have its own shortcomings. You're the one that seems to be blinded by your own ignorance.

I agree. The paints are much weaker than they were years ago. Unfortunately being environmentally friendly usually means giving up durability.

There is undoubtedly a big difference in paint quality between 1985 and 2014.

Damn, I post about a bug chipping paint off my truck and how I wish I had the paint job from my 2002 Chevy camaro and BAM, WTF. I dont let bug sit on my paint and drive around for a week. Just stating what I see. I have a vehicle from 2002 and the paint seems thicker. PERIOD. ill post a pic tomorrow. Hell im afraid to use a pressure washer on my truck. But I do love my tacoma

ATO front skid (need more but icon's might fail if I hang anything else from my truck) All-Pro front bumper thanks to a good deal here and a pesky encounter with a rock or 20, total chaos uppers.
I have to say not all companies paint quality had diminished. My DD is a VW that had almost 100k on the dial and has way fewer paint issues than my Tacoma. While driving my wife's BMW I got peppered by some small stones from a dump truck (was 2 cars back) and just waxed it today and it doesn't have a single paint chip! It's a 2015 so time will tell but so far both my VWs and now my wife's car seam to have pretty good paint.

I will say the VW and BMW absolutely suck in the desert so I'll keep dealing with the paint on the taco!

European car paint seems to take a beating pretty well. We use to joke and say you could throw a brick at our friends jetta and it would bounce off without a scratch. Our hondas/acuras hoods and bumpers would look like somebody took a sand blaster to them.
