I dunno, I washed and waxed my 2 year old black Tacoma today and the paint still looks brand new. Maybe it's just a matter of time...

I had heard it's those "fancy" colors that have the worst paint, the xxMica lines. Is that true?

Have to agree, I got smacked by a piece of a tractor trailer tire a few months ago and it blew out my fog light and cracked the fog light housing behind the bumper and left a ton of rubber on the bumper and a little on the corner of the hood. Figured I'd be replacing the hood and bumper. Replaced the light and bracket for less than the deductible and to my surprise the tire marks came off with a minimal amount of buffing with very low abrasive compound. I'm pretty stoked on the paint quality so far that's for sure.

I think a lot has to do with specific conditions. Those of us in the salty winter states have to take extra care. Lots of waxing and washing. If you travel the highway a lot, then you're more prone to chips. We do have the advantage of sitting a little higher which helps with chips.

My hood scratched this summer just from washing it. Kinda pissed me off at the time.

Pretty sure that would have left some decent scratches on my truck. Lol

Paint, schmaint. Who really cares, it's just a damn truck. Anything that sees the abuse our trucks take during even normal driving conditions is going to fade and chip. It's a fact of life. You buy a new car and one day it's dead, no more. Like you, here one day gone the next. Worry less, and live longer. And further more, drive the damn thing like you own it, and forget about looking good.

She had about 2000 miles at the time, 3 months into ownng her, started out as a brand new '14 and this was caused by TWIGS. Needless to say now I'm just like okay whatever when stuff comes into contact with my paint. Except for bird shit. That needs to stop like forever. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1421032883.122118.jpg

Oh I have more desert pin stripes than most and will definitely be adding more. The scratches don't really bother me as you said it's a truck! I was pissed when my 05 needed paint work due to the clear coat flaking on the roof and hood. And to be clear I bought it with 10 miles on it and kept it in the garage pretty much every night as well as waxing it and using a paint sealent multiple time a year. And that was after 7 years.
That being said I'd still buy another one since besides issues with the front diff it's been a pretty solid truck.

Haha I have had that same look multiple times! You will be surprised how much that will buff out. Really it's probably pretty easy to fix. I have some you can feel with your fingernail that still cleaned up pretty well. I run the truck pretty hard and body damage happens with use but I still do try to wax/polish out what I can.

You using fluorescent lights above truck in garage?? Those bulbs are destructive! Ever seen what they do to lamp shades, range hood light shrouds and anything close to them? Somehow they eat right through stuff.

Nope, had incendesets than switched to LED a few years back. That really showed all the flaws!
Good info though, had no idea that fluorescents were distructive. Truck did sit in the so cal sun 5 days a week next to the ocean so I'm sure that didn't help things...

I drive gravel. I've never had a vehicles front end hold up worth two shites without some sort of physical protection. I'm not a fan of the bug visor but my hood still looks like new compared to my similarly aged Dodge work truck.

I find most people tear off the clear coat trying to get the bugs off there car with a Hotsy wand. That's exactly what my wife did lol.

She took the clear right off her Hyundai bumper in one spot. Most people think the wand will NEVER hurt there car . Luckily she learned her lesson on her own vehicle. I just spray the bug degreaser from Costco on my truck and leave it for a few minutes. By the time I get to the carwash the bugs come right off.

I've seen way more GM vehicles around here than anything else missing there clearcoat. I'm not sure why. Plus the insurance companies here charge more to insure a Dodge because they windblast so bad. I've never had anyone but a Jeep or Ram owner complain about sandblasting damage from our 60 mph winds on a new vehicle.
